Radiator Fan Help (searched, oh god did I search!)
Hey guys:
Trying to determine if this is a problem or not. Just changed out my t-stat because the old one was stuck open. Flushed/refilled/bled air from the system. She gets nice and warm now, temp. guage reading normal, a little under half. Upper rad. hose gets hot prompty, lower follows after about 10 min or so (idling). Radiator fan does not come on (well, I only waited 20 min.) at idle but operates after driving for a while. I have tested the relay and the fan itself and both are OK per the service manual.
My question is: Should it be taking up to 20 min for the fan to kick on when the car is idling even though both hoses are warm and the temp. gauge reads normal?
Notes: It's WI in winter, about 40 degrees or so right now, I have *not* checked the fan switch on the back of the block yet because it's too much of a PITA to get at. DOHC ZC if it matters.
TIA.

It's very easy just go in the back of the block where the rubber boot is pull it off and jump it. Your best bet is the coolant temp switch is bad. It's not PITA just jack it up and go under it to do that. I did that to mine today and found out that I had a weak ground. Good luck

So the fan taking a while to kick in is normal? No its not overheating, I just want to prevent it if the fan is malfunctioning. Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it.
Most honda fan switch will not come on until maybe around 200-210 not sure on that so if it stays cool below 200 the switch will not activate the fan. If it's not overheating do not worry about it until summer is here.

If you just start the car cold and let it idle for 20min it won't heat up enought to turn the fan on...if it comes on during normal driving you are fine
Thanks for the reassurance everyone, I was scared that yet something else was going wrong with this engine. It's getting damn cold up here now and I do all my work outside, so fixing stuff is no party right now
. I've tried revving the engine to 2k when warming up and the fan kicks on after about 10 min, so
. I also did test the sensor on the back of the block and it's within spec. Again, I appreciate all the feedback.
