GT30R on low compression built b16 spool times and whp numbers with it
ok so i am thinking of going with a gt30r .60ar / .63ar and was wondering what you guys think the spool times and who numbers might be on 15-20psi motor has 8:1 compression ratio.
I think the spool will be very gradual on the B16 using pump gas. From 4k-8k+ the torque line should look like the f(x), which is a 45 degree line from bottom left to top right. Point being, it will peak right at 8k, which in turn means you will constantly accelerate at a faster and faster rate until you shift to the next gear. A very good turbo for traction in my opinion. Granted, all of this is speculation with the assumption that you have a very good manifold like lovefab or fullrace and a solid boost setting, no creep, no leaks, etc. Just to give an example, here's a good link...https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1773907
This car made 341whp on 8psi on a completely stock block, which is stupid awesome. It also made 217ft/lbs which is enough to give you a nice rush when at 6.5k+. He has the setup posted, so observe the results, and try to match that setup. If your already using higher quality pistons, although at lower compression, they should be nearly the same results since the pistons are much lighter than stock units. (Typically). Hope this helps.
I also think you'll be coming really close to maxing that turbo out at 20psi. I'd say 375+whp easy at 15psi, and perhaps close to 450whp if things turn out great.

Yeah, at 15psi I would expect somewhere around 400whp, maybe 425whp. IMO. I'm just speculating though. Full-Race doesn't mess around, but that character that pulled off 340whp w/ a 30R and a LoveFab was a freak setup, and especially rare to see.
full boost around 4-5k but well worth the wait.... and you'll make good numbers with that turbo and a solid tune .... I think the guy up top is talking about my setup aswell LOL...
here is a similar setup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdijTTxWwWk
i think you will be very happy with the results

I think you'll be very happy with it, I enjoy it more then the 28rs I had on the car. The 28rs was awesome, but it spooled too damn quick!

yes, I was talking about your beast. I've been telling people that the GT30R is the best damn turbo for the B16 hands down. You finally proved that for me. Thanks.
I'm actually building up my block with very similar parts, except that I'm using the GT35R (yes, the bandwagon)..and boosting it moderately (15psi). Hoping for 425+whp. That's enough for me to be happy...

we'll see. My head is coming from IB. 300+CFM w/ high lift NA cams. I'm hoping my mid-range will set new records. I ain't worried about top-end since the turbo is entirely too big for my motor anyways. I'm also using the LoveFab Shorty EQ mani in hopes of quick spooling.
I believe Jeff Evans did an experiment regarding spool rates compared to compression and displacement.
Whereas compression only effected power output not spool characteristics while spool was effected by displacement ie bore size.

on full races website they have a car showing 650whp with 81.5bore they are using the stg3gt turbo kit.... basicly the same motor i am using and same kit, altho i dont plan on pushing that kinda power, at least not yet!

don't you mean f(x) = x?
haha sorry, math major here....

Yeah, I didn't want to throw an equation out there. I figured I would get criticized about that. But yes, (the function of X) is what I meant. I'm no math major, but I've had Calculus a few times. Once in high school, once in college. Or other words... Y=X. For those who never saw past high school algebra.

well it definitly wouldnt be a street driven car with 650whp lol, but still the ammount of whp produced at that bore is pretty nice.
