gas mileage
Hey guys, I have a 99 Civic ex coupe (D16y8) and I get around 195 miles per tank with city driving and shifting at 3k RPM. You think thats about right? Engine is bone stock and car has a brand new fuel filter. Thanks in advance.
ummm if it's anything like my old 95 EX coupe was you should be getting at least 280 or so driving half-way economically. Right before wrecking it I was pulling off nearly 34 miles to the gallon so that woulda put me up around 330-340 miles to that tank of gas. I usually averaged 300. That was all city driving. Wish I could say the same about my hatch but that B16 ain't quite so efficient. On a good day I get about 28-30 in the city seems like.
I'd have to say you need to be getting more cause your fuel tank is bigger than mine was in my old car.

eep what happened to that thing. I wish that's what mine was like after the wreck but it was undrivable afterwards.

93 Cherokee head on
Now my B16 hatch is throwing a code. Code 91 for FTP that hatches don't even have. I think I'm going OBD1 to fix that.

I know my hatch gets rediculously bad gas mileage.. I have a cx hatch with a built type s h22a the tank is like...10 gallons and I get around 160-200 miles per tank depending on how I drive, I am sure I can get as little as about 4-6mpg if I live in vtak yo!
It would be helpful to know how many miles you get per gallon, but less than 200 miles to the tank sounds very low. I used to get pretty consitent 35-37 mpg on my turbo d16y8 when I was driving it every day. Now I just drive it on the weekends (so I find myself getting on it a lot more) and I'm still getting abour 33 mpg.

VTEC. It's an acronym, moron, and it's spelled out on most VTEC valve covers.
My bone-stock-down-to-the-air-filter 1993 Si gets between 30 and 38 depending on the temperature outside and how much I've been beating on it. It has 275k original miles on the engine and transmission.
So yes, in short, there's something wrong.

Have you considered giving it a complete tune up?
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
Dist. Cap
Rotor
Air filter
Oil change (5w-20)
Tranny fush and fill
O2 sensor
Other things to consider:
Check tire pressure
Alignment
Change your driving style
Clogged cat?
Etc...

My d16y8 gets about 270 or so per tank, I could probably get a little higher but I dont empty it all the way out. I just recently changed the plugs, air filter, and oil. I probably should be getting a little higher than that, but I cant help the fact I have a lead foot.
My 94 civic ex abs gets at least 300 per tank (mixed city and freeway about 30mpg so long as I'm not constantly flooring it, I maintain as smooth of a throttle as possible). With my recent driving (mostly freeway) i'm on pace to get 400 this tank.

I have the same exact car and honestly that's about all I get out of the car, a little better though because I fill up right under half a tank especially in the winter to prevent gas line freezing so honestly I can get about 250 miles to the tank which seems low to me, but I also drive at higher speeds since my way travel to work is 46 miles round trip at all highway I do about 65-90 the whole way. But it gets picky, one time I'll fill it up and I can get like 300, the next time and it's only on like 180 and i'm ready to fill again, guess it's just my driving mood.

Check the contact on your rotor... If it's charred, you might see an improvement if you replace it... Go for the one with a solid aluminum/brass contact (preferably brass)... The ones with a waffer sandwich are garbage IMO... While you're there, you can take a file and clean the contacts on the dist. cap...
See if that makes any difference...
Worse comes to worst, you can always try seafoam...
