Default Has anyone done this with there exhaust?

Im looking at exhaust systems, and I was just thinking as a possible option to save money has anyone tried just taking off the 2 rear mufflers, and replacing them with straight pipes? With a precat, cat, and resinator still in line, im thinking it might sound pretty good. Any thoughts?

why?

you still going to deal with the small pipe restriction, the canister itself doesn't suck out much power.

not to metion it will sounds pretty stupid and pointless.

You dont make sence, if I got a new exhaust system the pipe restriction will be the same and I will have the muffler as well, plus im willing to save my self 500 dollars and spend the 50 bucks so its not exactly pointless, plus im not doing this for HP gain, I just want some noice.

if you are not open for comment then go log off honda-tech.

i offer you my opinion, mostly negative but if you think i am just a dumbarse then by all means go weld your pipe.

if you just want more noise, why not remove the exhaust at once and save the 50 dollar? neither way you end up with a crappy noisy car.

another noisy import that runs 16.5, yeah, that's what we all need.

if you get a new exhaust... you have the option of larger pipes, so the restriction isnt as bad, and a muffler shop should be able to take care of you for less than $500 and it wont sound like ****. You had better be glad this forum is rather forgiving, the 300zx forum i'm part of would rip the hell out of you and then some for doing that to your car. do yourself and everyone else a favor and dont add another ricey honda to the streets do it right, dont go rice

precat? wtf is that?!....replace mufflers with straight pipe?....WHY?!....as if coffee can mufflers arent annoying enough you want to run no muffler?....im so confused here....

if you really want to save money that bad then go buy a magnaflow muffler. and if you want, a magnaflow high flow cat. and resonator and have a muffler shop fab up some 2.5" crushed bent mild steel piping. not as great as stainless steel mandrel bent but its also alot cheaper. plus, depending on the person making the crush bends, the flow diference between crushed and mandrel isnt very significant under 30 degrees.
