Default Typical "Car won't start" question.

Okay so was driving around last night and my car was running fine..
then it randomly dies and won't start back up. it didn't bog down.. i didn't run out of gas.. itjust stopped. It will turn over all day but it won't start. I can hear the fuel pump turning on at acc2 and i checked to see if the valves were turning over. so it's not the pump or timing belt. I'm thinking fuse or main relay? I searched it but i can't find much. I'm sure there are things somewhere but i can't find them.

i have a 1992 civic lx

I'm pretty sure the main relay operates the fuel pump, so I don't think it's that if you said you hear it priming.

I wonder if it's a spark issue, you getting spark?

Then check the pressure at the fuel rail.

I havn't had the time to check that yet.. and no one is around to crack it for me. But if it was a fuel problem.. wouldn't the motor bog damn right before it died? it seems electrical to me.

All sorts of **** can happen.

Check the spar, if you're getting a hard spark outta all 4, check the fuel pressure.

It's MOST likely the spark system, if it all went bad then it doesn't sound like one plug, sounds like your dizzy crapped out for whatever reason.

EDIT:
PS: Your alternator or battery could have taken a **** as well.

Honda coils go out a lot it is very common for it to fail along with the igniter. Check for spark and i bet it is one of the two.

This is how I checked for spark by myself, take the plug wire and find a spare spark plug or take the one in the engine out. Put the sparkplug in the wire, then place it on your front header panel next to your headlight make sure the side of theplug touches the metal panel, then crank it over if you got spark you're good, for fuel, loosen the fuel regulator and turn the car over if it leaks out a lot you got fuel...please be advise this is not the safest way but that's how I did it. If you got spark and fuel, check your compression, if compression is like half of what it is supposed to be then go ahead and check your timing. You might have jumped your timming. That's my suggestion.

Thank everyone.. i checked for spark. No spark. my idiot friend broke my distributor cap off and lost one of the springs. I have the carbon spring and the carbon stick thing that go in there. but no contact spring. Any way to fix this? i bought a new cap & rotor hoping that would fix the problem.

Also, are the ebay MSG external coils/caps any good? how hard are they to install?
