F22 (i think--90 accord) into 4G (89 3 door civic) axles, et cetera
Hello all,
We're looking at dropping a 90 accord motor into an 89 civic hatchback and are wondering about the challenges. So far, my research has turned up that the swap is difficult, mounts need to be made, there is a huge weight penalty, et cetera.
I'm not worried about that. We have an 89 civic ice racer (stock 5 speed drivetrain), we have a good running 90 accord with a 5 speed and we need to make the swap. There is no budget for looking for better or better fitting motors.
We've got the capabilities to deal with custom mounts, wiring issues and what-not. This car will never be run on the street.
So, what I'm wondering about is my parts list. Can I use the axles from either car? Or do I need custom ones? I assume I want to swap the tranny with the motor but, should I stop there or try to move uprights, brakes, steering, et cetera with it? Do I need to swap the shifter too?
I'd appreciate any advice I can get on this.
Thank you,
Michael O'
