Default Tranny Round #2

Well she's already been in the shop once, had the tranny dropped and the 3rd and 4th gearsets replaced. Alas, the problem has returned, I am still having problems with 3rd and 4th gears. They said the first time that the synchro's for those two gears were fudged. I had that replaced two months ago. Looks like they will be replacing it again. I am waiting on my service rep to give me a call back.

I am still getting a squeak while im in first gear. Originally they said it was the exhaust manifold gasket. They replaced it, noise went away for about a month or so, now it is back.

I am also getting a nasty clicking noise when I have my wipers on the delay setting. It's annoying.

Also the car keeps pulling to the right. They did an alignment when they dropped the tranny a few months ago. However, it was still pulling after that.

I will update on each situation once I hear back from my service rep.

Thanks for the information. I have an alignment issue as well. They fix it awhile, but it returned as well. I will be having them fix it again.

Man sounds like you got a lemon transmission....

I know I have 2nd gear issues and alot of people have the 3rd gear issue.

Hopefully if they replace components again, they'll do it right!

Just an update on the situation.

Tranny. Service master (whatever the expletive they call him) and tech drove the car "numerous" times and could not duplicate the grinding, so they did nothing about it. I will have to bring it in again when it happens. It happens more so on cold days, so I will take it in again when its cold.

Squeak. Once again, they could not duplicate it, so again it wasn't fixed.

Pull to the right. Honda specs says that if it takes less than 7 seconds to change lanes and the tire pressure is correct on all corners then it is within factory spec. So once again, nothing fixed.

So all in all, they had my car for a day and all I got was a 10 dollar oil change. WOOPDEE ******* DOO.

Does anyone have a phone number for American Honda? I have a feeling I will be giving them a call soon.

Thanks for listening.

I'm pretty sure that has something to do with the caster that the SI has....not CAMBER, but the CASTER. I remember reading a while ago about it because my car was doing it. Something about it being a very aggressive setting and it is completely normal.

Thanks for the telephone number. I was able to duplicate the squeaking noise, so the tech is ordering the parts for that. He said is the gasket for the exhaust manifold. This will be the second time they have replaced the gasket.

Also, thanks for that tid bit on the steering pull. If that is true, then I can live with it

Goodluck with the problem, did you buy your car used? Maybe the problem exists between the seat and the steering wheel. lol

Car was bought new.

Last time I checked I knew how to drive a manual. Been doing it for over 10 years. However, I do appreciate you trying to solve the problem for me, even it was of little help.

I'm getting the exact same issue but with 3rd gear. When I start to put it in 3rd gear, it feels like its in and time to release the clutch, but once I release the clutch it grinds and pops into neutral.
After I recognized that problem I noticed that I have to push the **** in further.

I got a similar problem with reverse. When I put it in reverse, it doesn't allow me to go in all the way but the reverse light is on. Haven't taken it to the dealer yet cuz I dunno if they're going to charge a deductible. If they do, I'm broke!!!

Man I've been reading everybody's tranny problems while I've been experiencing them at the same time, and I gotta say, its really pissing me off. Today I got the third gear grind so I backed off on the shifter, made SURE the clutch was to the floor, and tried pushing it into gear again and what do i get? CCCKKKKKKKKK

I haven't talked to the dealer yet, but I'm going to ASAP. I do hope he has an answer for me.

But to make this a useful post - I've gotten into the habit of slamming it into 2nd and 3rd gear, will doing this damage my synchros or anything else?

I think the sychros for 3rd & 4th gear were fucked to begin with coming from Honda. Just my 2 cents.

Didn't the Si's have tranny issues too with the older Si's?

I just hope I don't have to go through 3 tranny's... I love my Si... (crying)

From my experience, synchros go bad because of the driver.. Slamming gears, power shifting, whatever you want to call it.. You just have to remember, you're not driving a sports car, don't treat it like one.. I drove my GSR hard, but I didn't slam gears, just made quick percise shifts..

I haven't seen issues with the new civic trannys yet, but I have encountered others.. It all turns out that the person behind the well thinks it's a race car.. We do the job once, and only once..

I totally agree with you Wild Will that it has a high performance motor and spirit of a sports car. However, having owned a s2000 and owning a 350z now, the Civic Si with its backseats and stock 15 second performance. I can't categorize it with my other cars. Back to the topic, Im going to do more research on the Si tranny. Thanx to Si_You_Later for posting his prob. Keep us posted.
