I can do it, it's jus the f23a1... after reading those threds it's not gonna be nearly as hard as I thought... I think droppin the motor in will be easy but I think the hard part is gonna be wiring it up... thanx for the help again phil.

Anytime... Just take your time on the wiring. It's probably one of the most critical things about the swap. For the driver's side motor mount, if you can get your hands on a Euro-R mount it'll make things easier, but it's not necessary.

I did the swap on a friend's friend's car a few weeks ago. (Yeah, I know, friend of a friend of a mother's dog's cousin's owner, whatever.) It's definitely not a hard swap. Patience is key, as well as studying what needs to be done ahead of time.

Hey Philadd,

I just had a 2000 H23A DOHC VTEC OBDII swap done. It's not 100% but I took the car back as its our daily driver and I needed it back.

The H23A still has the JDM EGR and I still have my OEM ECU (I've got a 99 Accord). The car isn't running right and throws random misfire codes. We got a P5M ECU (97 JDM Prelude ECU) but it was an OBD II connector A type so I swapped it with a PCT ECU (99+ ITR ECU) since it's an OBD II Type B.

1. Should I look for a USDM or JDM H22A OBD II Type B ECU?
2. Do I need to retain my F EGR regardless or does it depend on the ECU?

Thanks in advance for your help... I'm nearly there!

I would use the EGR from the F-series. I don't have any personal experience with the H23 VTEC motor, so the best I can do is speculate. If you can't get a hold of the H23 VTEC ECU, then I would think the next best thing would be a H22 ECU. The USDM ECU should be easy enough to get a hold of.

I do NOT have a whole lot of experience with different ECUs. The few swaps that I have done or helped with have all been USDM motors with the corresponding USDM ECUs. The guys in the Prelude forum should be better able to answer your question...

Hi philadd, thanks for the help. I'll pull the EGR from the F motor just in case, the JDM one is hooked up but I have no idea if it's working properly. The H23A VTEC ECUs are all Auto ECUs as I don't think they made any 5spd ECUs.

I guess I'll have to look for an H22A ecu but I need one that is OBDII Type B which are the Type S ECUs. Since the compression on the H23A is different, I don't know that they will work well either.

Maybe I'll see if there is a way to convert the OBD II H23A ECU from Auto to Manual somehow...

Update...

Turns out that the EGR on the 99 Accord is identical to the EGR on the 00-01 H23A. They are both 6 wire electronically controlled EGRs.

The IACVs are also identical, they are both 3 wire IACVs. It seems that only ECU for an H motor that is manual, uses a 3 wire IACV and 6 wire EGR are the Euro Accord Type R H22A7 ECUs... code PDE.

I'm trying to source one but also need to confirm the immobilizer type... if it's one that I can't get around, I'll just bite the bullet and get an EMS from AEM or HKS.

Yeah, it slipped my mind that the H23 VTEC motors were all equipped with automatics.

Have you asked the guys in the Prelude forum about this yet? I know there's a few guys over there that should know the answer, but I don't know if they're still around or not.

I wish I could be of more help, but it's beyond my knowledge at this point. Best of luck to you.
