Default Can needing a valve adjustment affect shifting?

I think I'm in need of a valve adjustment because from what I've searched, getting bad gas mileage (I'm getting like 18-24mpg and that's including highway) and a slight ticking sound from the engine bay means I need one.

My question is, can this affect the way my transmission shifts in my 99 auto teg? i.e. I've noticed "harder" shifting?

Can oil affect this valve adjustment thing too? I put some 10w40 in there for the last oil change about 2400 miles ago. Could that have thrown it off? I plan on putting 5w30 in there in about 2 days.

Also, I don't have much mechanical know-how, would you guys even take a shot at doing it if you were me?

Replace the transmission fluid, usually fix hard shifts. And also use 5-30 in the winter, depending on how cold it is where u live. how many miles since u last had the valves adjusted?

I dunno, I bought the car with 124k on it, and it has 128k now. The maintinence records say nothing about valve adjustments...but the tranny fluid was changed at 100k. Is it not the fluid then?

You need a tranny flush..My teg had the same problem..and valve adjustments are done at 30K intervals..and make a big difference in gas mileage and how it runs..

But the tranny shifting hard is semi-normal on these cars..honda trannys suck to a point

(i have a 98 LS auto integra)

haha...okay, I guess I'll stop worrying about it, I'm just paraniod and have to have everything perfect. So I should assume that my bad gas consumption could be attributed to the valve adjustment?

It sounds kind of weird reving too, I don't take it past 3k in fear of worstening the valves? It's kind of a clicking noise when idling right?

The Honda dealer (closest thing I got here) quoted me $205...thought that was a little high, I'm gonna try to find someone besides the dealer to do it for me cheaper.
