Default tranmission question

i have a 95 civic ex 49000miles on it automatic, car works fine for about 2-3hrs, then out of nowhere the tranmission starts to slip and doesn't seem to want to go past 20/30mph sometimes does this at 40mph and the engine just revs high when i apply more gas. Then if i turn car off/on everything will work fine and shifts perfectly till another 30mins or so and same problem will occur till im barely going at all with engine just revving high.

i changed cap, distributor, all new spark plugs, gas filter, oil filter, and transmission sensor (local mechanic said usually these go bad not the transmission and was only 50bucks so i gave it a try). if it is the transmission would am i looking at to have that replaced with labor.

just do it yourself. all you should need to do is buy a new OEM clutch and have the flywheel resurfaced. This will definately be a cheaper alternative to having a shop do it, plus you will learn a lot about your car .

The job itself is really not that hard, all you have to do is get the car off the ground enough in order to drop out the tranny. Everything else is easy, you just unbolt a lot of misc. things, pull out the axles, undo a few hoses, disconect the clutch line and unbolt the tranny.

If you do decide to do the job yourself then i def suggest getting a repair manual to help aid you through the job. as far as tearing down the tranny itself, that should not be necessary, you should only have to replace the clutch.
