97 gsr...WHAT THE HELL SHOULD I DO?!
hey guys... im savin up to hook up my car, performance wise...heres the problem... i dont have a clue to what i should do... i originally wanted to turbo a gsr motor, doin up a motor on the side, sleeves low compression... the whole 9 yds. then i was just gonna go all motor cuz i heard that turbo was too much of a pain in the *** for a daily driver. then i was recently told of a the K20A swap... the integra(rsx) type r in japan... sounds really damn temping... the swap would cost me less then wat i wanted to do wit the other options... i would just need an exhaust header n new cams... n i was told kpro... but i really like apexi vafc II... any ideas?
why not save the money, sell your integra and buy a rsx if you want the k series swap?
But you know what they say whatever tickles you r pickle. I just think its too much of a hassle.
Have you considered a Supercharger?

A K series is going to cost you quite a bit of money. Your looking at a minimum of 6k to have a stock motor swap. Nothing wrong with that (I am in the process of piecing mine together) All three options you listed are good choices. But only you can decide how much you want to spend and only you know your power goals.

a b18c5 will bolt on and if anythings breaks you can fix it asap. no custom stuff. but a k20r will be pretty fast.
you want a car that easy to work on or go faster you pick.

well the thing is... i can get the motor for around 6Gs... but then cams r another grand n the header is 300 n exhaust is gonna be custom... wat i wanna know is... is there goin to be a big different in power is i use the b series or the k series... if thats the case then ill just stick to the b series... but if the k series is really the better bang for a lil more... then its worth it... plus its a six sp wit lsd... idk its just temptin if u ask me
Boost out of a DD is not all that bad. K swaps are gonna cost you an arm and a leg. and the numbers youre going to get out of it arent going to offset the cost. NA is expensive.
Im an NA guy all the way. with boost you can make much higher power with less money. NA is expensive.
It all comes down to your budget. how much do you really want to spend?

NA is more satisfying though...anyone can throw a turbo kit on and make power..building an all motor beast is an artform

yeah but i dont consider it an art when you pay soeone else to do it.. !! i get the idea that the OP isnt mechanically inclined to build a motor (niether am i), so i would say just get hondata, ctr cams? , complete exhaust system, springs and retainers, and just call it a day.. (plus tune).

type R motor will be only about 4000-4500, that saves u 2 Gs about, u can use those 2 to get it swaped into and have some left over :]

My opinion is that if you asking the message board what you should do, than this may be your 1st build. And it seems $$$ might just be a little issue.
Take it slow. Enjoy your project. Usually people set there bar WAY too high and end up selling the stuff they had planned to build because the goal became too much for them to do.
A swap is not easy at all. And most people end up selling their "swap car" because they didnt do it correct, due to not knowing what they are doing.
Buy an intake. put it on... enjoy something new.
Buy something else... put it on... enjoy something new.
Have a final goal. But do something new every month or so to accieve the goal. It makes the project alot more enjoyable.

I agree with that theroy..I dont think i could put it in any other WORDs.. Nice at least there is more N/A people on here..
But also it not up to the board what you want its basically what type of power you want and how much you willing to spend..
I personnally would go with a ALL MOTOR GSR rather then boosted but BOOST is a fun option.

so spending more money for less power is an artform? that almost makes sense. people talk about a highly built na engine like its going to last longer than a turbo'd engine. shifting at 9,500 rpm on a built na motor is going to significantly reduce engine life too.
you get more hp for the $ with a turbo. i vote turbo.

thanx bud that makes a lot of sense... i appreciate that. i guess ill go n buy the little things then when i get the motor.. work on that. my goal was to build up the motor outside the car first...then swap it in. it is goin to be my everyday car soo i want to keep my car out on the street... the only reason i wont touch this motor is cuz it has 144K on it... i might be gettin a new gsr motor from a wrecked gsr(from the rear), i was gonna sell the swap n get the type r... would it smarter to just work on the gsr?

i disagree, putting little things on step by step is a bad idea. this is how you waste money. you need to come up with a plan of exactly you want to do and don't waste money on little useless crap. for example, after buying an intake, header, and exhaust you might decide to rebuild the motor, creating a need for a better header and exhaust. changing the intake manifold will require a new intake, etc. if you're planning on turboing the motor eventually, don't buy anything like an intake or header because you'll have to pull them off anyway. don't buy parts on impulse, think about the overall picture and how it'll affect your plans.
