My friend .... i'm sorry.. but "hi flow cat" is pure BS, pure and simple. It's a piece of pipe that does not but decrease your gas mileage and make your car louder, not to mention what it does to the enviroment as far as emissions concerns.
Anyway, why don't just remove it and throw that piece of nothing away.
BTW... i'm not trying to be rude, I am being honest with you!

well high flow cat is like a straight pipe basically. well depending on the brand. and it does increase hp by a small margin. and about the emision law. haha we dont have that here in hawaii. muhahah!
If he threw it away what would he use?? Keep it on, what kind of exhaust do you have on? That could make a difference in the sound. If you have a straight through exhaust for sure it's going to be loud, what did you expect? If you don't want it so loud you can either go back to your stock cat, or maybe change your muffler to one that has some bafflers. Or you can keep it the way it is and get the attention of the police. And it's true that having simply a "hi-flow" cat does not increase your power. You have to upgrade your whole exhaust system to feel any kind of difference.
What is the current exhaust set-up? If you still have the stock muffler and it is that loud, you most likely have a leak somewhere. Check the O2 bung(s), and make sure the cat is sealed up at both ends. You may be able to *carefully* put your hand near the ends of the cat and see if you feel pulses, or see soot staining anywhere.
If the car has an open muffler, check for leaks anyway, but you may be SOL. The stock cat does quiet the exhaust down quite a bit. In this case, you may have to add a silencer. Pick up a "cherry bomb" with a perforated core, and have it welded in. The longer the muffler, the more it will quiet things down.

When my stock cat went bad, I replaced it with a Carsound/Magnaflow hi-flow cat because it was cheaper. I then had to change the exhaust out for a quieter one because the car was so loud... It didn't bother me though since I was already planning to get a different exhaust.

I think you two guys are spending too much time looking on eBay. Most eBay "hi-flow cats" are nothing more than resonators. A REAL hi-flow cat, like the Carsound/Magnaflow cat, is a hell of a lot more than just a straight pipe. It STILL functions. It STILL passes emissions. Hi-flow cats use a metal substrate catalyst, as opposed to OEM cats that typically use a ceramic catalyst. The S2000's cat actually what people would call a hi-flow cat, since it uses a metal substrate catalyst. So, now that you know that, are you saying that Honda used a straight pipe on the S2000 and that it doesn't pass emissions?

i just purchased my accord with a jdm h22... it had staright 2 1/2 pipe no cat or anything...god it was annoying. ii took it down to the muff shop and they found a 2 1/2 inlet outlet stock muffler welded it on and it sounds pretty good...
