no there would be no coolant in there or in my radiator.so i would have to add and as of rite now i put a little more coolant in the tank.and for the fumes i cant really tell or i guess it aint that strong for me to smell it.

well do a simple diagnostic your self. preasure test the cooling system with a preassure pump to see if you are leaking only whle driving. u can also check your radiator for Carbon monoxide ehoust comng form there, but then for that u need a special tool. u can buy a coolant system preasure tester, just buy a cheap one for now. trust me that it comes very in handy when ur diagnosing problems

i had a similar problem but it was my upper radiator hose was crappy and where it went into the motor it would leak out and instantly evaporate due to the high temps of the engine and i couldnt see or diagnose it but after smelling coolant i just got a new one and it has been fine ever since.

pull the plugs and see if they have a greenish tint. Find someone who might have a scope to check out the pistons for disscolor.
Try a compression test.
Try a leak down test if the compression test is ok.
You can put a flurscent die in the coolant and use a black light to look for traces of coolant out side of the motor.

But if you honestly dont see any signs of coolant out side of your motor. more than likely your head gasket is shot.
Good luck i hope this helps out a lil.
