Default Crank Seal

Any way to change the crank seal on an H22 motor with the oil pump still on the motor? Don't really want to drop the oil pan and take the pump out to change a seal.

i believe you can use a pick to take it out and there is a tool from honda to tap a new one on. it would prolly be easier with it off though.

you never take the oil pump out to just change the seal.

I'm looking at the helms manual and it does not seem to have instructions on how to remove the seal with the pump on....am I missing something here?

I already got the timing belt off....hell I even have my cylinder head off at the moment. But I don't and will NOT take anything else off to change the seal. I have got to the point where I am tired of taking things apart lol...time to put things back together.

I'm waiting for an answer for this too... i was hoping that you can remove the seal with some sort of dental pick... and then get a cross section of pvc piping that is as big as the seal and tap it in place...

would that work?

Trust me, it will be 100% easier to replace that seal with the pump off the car. Not only that, if your gonna replace the crank seal, you might as well replace both balancer shaft seals also. I hardly doubt you have any room what so ever to get any sort of tubing and a rubber hammer to be able to tap the seal in with the pump still in the car. If i remmember correctly, the helms has you place the seal driver against the seal and use a screw driver to force the seal in by wedging it in between the frame of the car and the seal driver.

If would not be that hard to remove the oil pump. There would be alot of little things to remove but none of them hard at all. Hell if you have the head off your 70% there anyways.

In the helms it says you can replace that seal with out removing the oil pump. So you can give it a shot.
