Default What kind of oil to use with boost?

Hey guys, just looking for a quick answer.

With boosted B series motors what would be the best grade of oil to run? this is on a daily driver.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Travis

hmm ok. So its a toss up between 5w30 and 10w30. Engine has fresh 81.5mm bore. new valvetrain, bottem end is built with new crank, rods and pistons. hp goal is in the 400whp mark.

all depends on the weather outside... if its winter time, 5w-30 is best, that way cold starts are easier cuz the viscosity of the oil is lower but still a 30 weight when warmed up. you can use that all year round really. 10w-30 is fine when its warmer out.

if your motor is older, id stay away from synthetic, its soo thin that it finds leaks. and if your motor is really old.. then the synthetic will disolve the built up sludge and possible clog something in the oil system somewhere..

if the motor is new, its fine... AFTER BREAK IN. but once you use synthetic, ...you cant go back.

even on a new motor, i would only use a synthetic BLEND... cuz honda motors really arent ment for it... a friend of mine built an all motor poor man itr GSR.. Mobile 1 from day ONE... 66,000 miles later it smokes a bit and leaks a lil... synthetic is just too damn thin IMO..

I use Amsoil 20-50 synthetic racing oil and run 11 and 16 lbs boost. Amsoil 2000 synthetic racing oil has better load bearing and heat tolerance than regular oils. Synthetics can cost between $4 & $10+ per quart. Whatever you use, change it about every 1-2 K and use good filters (Hastings or other highly rated filters)

I use 15-40 delo. I live in hawaii so I don't worry about cold starts. I think I will start using 10-30 though. Oil with large viscosity ranges like 5-40 are not good can mess with turbo. cokeing

Hatcheh2 had some good info.

I used oem oil filter and Shell 5w40 full synthetic from walmart. I do notice that the full synthetic 10w30 Mobil oil burn faster.

15w50 for me. Tried 5w30 and 10W30, but the oil always got too thin from heat. Look like I was pouring water when changing oil.
