What will it take for my 4g to walk an LT1?
Okay, so here's the picture. My father has entered his mid-life crisis and bought a used camaro... 97 Z28 with the borg-warner 6 speed and the LT-1. Only mods I know of are the cat-back, k&n filter, and a chip... Maybe an ignition system. He keeps talking about the car as if it were the fastest car in the world. I know it's pretty fast... but only in the high 13's.
What would I have to do to make my car faster on the track.. and off the track than his car?
About the only thing that i can beat him in right now is the build quality. And gas mileage.
My car is a basic 90 ex with the 4 speed auto, and an F22A4 engine. Just a MSD 6A, Mallory race coil, new plug wires, K&N intake, 2 1/4 exhaust from the cat flange with an LX muffler on the end.
Thing is. I want it to look stock. I don't want him crying out "FOUL" and doing the same amount of re-work to his car. I want the interior intact... anything can go under the hood...
What would you do with a 4g accord? H22 swap? I know an easy way is to sell my car, and get a 5.0lx, work from that... but I'd rather stick with a honda. Just your thoughts and opinions.
edit: I would like the budget for any mods to be around 3 grand... that's asking alot, isn't it...

here's how you beat him....trade in your car...get a loan...and go buy one of those new Mini Coopers....that'll beat an LT1 stock....haha
...a good reply to his car would be a trans am....those things are hella fast stock and there's just as much aftermarket support for em as there are hondas...that'd be your best (and least time/expensive bet)...but don't forget that if he put the same amount of effort into the camaro as you want to put into your accord...he would rip you a new ( )o( ) ....haha

I happen to have a 94 TransAm for sale...lucky you.
I agree with everything else that's been said, so I would try and beat him on the road course instead of the strip. You'll never win. Ever. At least on the road course you'd have a chance to show him what's up.
And by the way, when you're driving a 4th gen F-Body, they do feel like the fastest cars on the road. Especially when you nail the 2nd-3rd shift at full throttle...ahhhh

H22 swap, basic bolt ons, upgraded internals, big shot of nitrous. That should do it. If you do your own work, that will run you around $5000-$7000. Slicks could help too.
actaully, i've put about $2200 into my car, including the car...it runs a very low 15..
if I had $800, i could run a low 13
good clutch, and a direct port kit...
the engine should hold a 100 shot pretty easy with proper tuning
but in your case...here's what you do:
tranny swap w/good clutch - $1100
block guard, pistons, rods - $1400
direct port - $500
WEIGHT REDUCTION = PRICELESS

Yeah, that's the kind of answer that I was looking for. So you're saying that If i were to do this, I should put block guards on the engine and prep it for wet nitrous? Wouldn't I bust some axles like that? I've seen that red 94 accord dx guy's story (Niiice looking car) and the axles he went through.
The build quality on that car really sucks. Even when I compare it to a 97 SL2 saturn, or my granny's 91 Cadillac. The door panels are having problems, the door locks dont work, the window rattles... but it's still a fast car. Just feels like the car will fly apart above 100. The reason I said high 13's is because this car is from south central LA. It has the chrome 17 inch low profile wheels on there... with tires that make it easy for my grandma to chirp the tires in third. It's still damn fast. I drove it again today. The LT-1 is in a class of it's own. I wish that would fit under the hood of my car. Maybe I can sabotage his car... but that's playing dirty.
What would an H22 swap get me? I might be able to find a 94 prelude engine. I heard the swap was pretty easy. would it help if I worked harder and got another thousand dollars to spend?

a friend of mine here in AZ ran 14.99 on the stock f22 in his 92 coupe EX. weight reduction + weight reduction + cheap junkyard header + home depot intake + weight reduction = 14.99-15.2
he has the an h22 w/ lsd in his backyard and is waiting to put it in, his car will easily see 13's on stock motor + header(open). by the way, his car is on its way to being a fully-prepped drag only NA monster. fully built engine, eventually.

this would allow you to run say a 150 shot...but start at like a 20 shot, then you can set an amount of time for it to increase to the full 150 shot...its really a wonderful thing

i also know someone else who had an automatic H23 swap in his accord....sprayed an 80 shot i believe and ran a 13.6 on full interior and i think some sound system stuff. thing is though he squeezed in first.....not good on an auto tranny and on your axles.
13's are not totally unheard of, just takes a bit to get there...
if it were my car i would dump $700 on parts for the tranny swap...another $800 for a good H23 engine. $700 could go towards an awesome nitrous setup, and the rest will take care of the plexi glass your gonna wanna get

it will take alotto beat the 97 LT1. i drive a 90 accord ex with all the bolt on lowered nd such and my best friend has a 96 super sport camaro with nothing but the way it came from slp and none of us imports have came even close(except for a upgraded single turbo rx7 which is suposedly the badest import in town)... so buddy do like me and have a 4g accord to kill imports and when the v-8's talk **** go buy you a 96 camaro supersport and stomp all the 5.0s you want!
