Default Temp/Fuel Gauge Problem

This is my 2nd one ive had on the prelude. The original one was very dim- wiring was fine so i figured it went bad already. I got another one about...hmmm 3 months ago or something- its been doing fine but i think its going out on me as well. Like it has to "charge up" to get bright or something. I will be checking all the wires today since im off of work. But i was thinking about doing something like this.
Getting some autometer gauges or some non electric ones- and remove the electric ones the prelude has and make a "housing" for the new gauges and put them there. I dont know...i dont want to keep buying these and i heard a few guys have the same problem every so often. Is there a way i can make sure my new one doesn't burn out if i buy one- i dunno something electrical i can modify- my idea sounds kinda ricey or weird...im outta ideas on this one.
