Default Annoying problem with Autometer EGT guage

Most of the time it acts just as it should. However, every now and then my pyrometer will go on the fritz. The needle will bounce erradically all over the place. I've heard from some other people that have had this same problem with the Autometer ones too. They jst diched it and got a different brand.

Anyways, Does anyone here have that problem? How did you fix it?

you check your connections and ground? sounds electrical not a malfunctioning gauge.

Fortunately I have not had problems with one before, but I only have had experience with 2-3 units and their installation.

sounds like a bad ground. Check your wiring.

the probe shouldnt be the problem if you get any reading at all, I beleive it is a thermistor, as temp increases voltage signal decreases. do as above noted, can only be bad connection probably your 12V hot as you say it spikes. PS not sure about autometer but if connections arent polarized and you mixed signal with 12V the gauge might be cooked.

ok i put in another brand new gauge today and it does the same exact ****...
Imma call autometer tomorrow.
I rewired this thing like 4 times now.
good ground i have two other things going to it and the bulb is hooked up off it to, so why isnt the ******* bulb flashing with the gauge because its good.
The power wire is run into the fuse box, imma change that tomorrow.
wondering it the probe is seeing alot of vibration noticed today the fluttering is almost linear with the car vibrations.
I dunno, pissing me off
It was fine at first until about 5 minutes of driving.

ok got it working.

A friend who was helping me when i tapped the probe had the probe all the way smashed in, it was sitting on the bottom of the runner. dont no if that matters or not
on top of that I rewired it. Gave it its own ground all byitself. Gave it its own power wire.
And then put a ground strap off the exhuast manifold.
and it seems to be working good so far.

If you want your EGT made by autometer to react quicker ditch the autometer probe and buy the TRE probe. My buddy had the stock probe and it reacted nice but when he ditched it and added the TRE probe it was almost like a boost gauge it acted really really fast and the reacton time was instantanios.
