Usually wait a couple minutes for it to warm up. Usually wait until the RPM's drop a little.
If im in a rush i'll just let it bounce off the rev limiter for a sec.

alot of people dont realize how important it is to allow your car to warm up, especially if its cold outside and its been off for a few hours. my friend has a 2003 honda civic and for some reason as soon as he turns on his car in like 20 degree weather he drives off...and let me tell you i dont ever recall him letting his car warm up, and now 30,000 miles later the car lags ALOT, shifts funny. and the maintance required light is on. Then theirs my 1997 honda accord coupe that always gets the chance to fully warm up before taking off. and still runs like its just came off the show room.

If I remember right the owners manual says 30 seconds is all thats needed.. That might have been for another car I'm thinking of though. I wish I had remote start like i had in my old cd5.

i wait until the the digital temp gauge says 115-F after 45 secs then leave.

like older cars you had to wait up to 5 or 10 mins before you can leave. This was mostly ture for big v8's or they will stall on you.

the max a inline 4 needs is 40 secs then your golden.

Usually a minute or two, sometimes more, depending on how long its been since it was on and how cold it is outside

i usually warm it up until the temp. needle goes above the C (cold). but now i just use my remote starter and turn it on while im getting ready to leave. so it warms up once i get inside my car.

totally not needed. in fact you could get a ticket for extended periood of idle in canada.

the car warm up fastest in light load, you do not need to let it sit for that long.

and in fact alot of people let it sit for a while and beat the sh-t out of it, the motor been warm up, yes but the tires, diff, clutch, brake have not.

Bad thing to warm up in idle up to operating temp. Waste of gas too. Just drive and be gentle below 3k rpm until fully warmed up. Best to warm up while moving with load but don't gun it above 3k rpm until fully warmed up.

1-3 minutes is a good rule of thumb. wait for the oil to get from the pan to the valve train for longer life. but my 1990 accord does have 333K miles. also drive 1996 civic 231K miles, 1981 accord 276k miles, and the wife drives 2003 cr-v 54K miles. let it warm up.

yeah I see those people that don't warm up their cars all the time; driving along swerving all over the road trying to clear off the windshield with a napkin, and slamming on their brakes when the sun hits the windshield and blinds them.
Warm up the car until there is heat coming from the defrost vents and the windows are clear. You aren't the ONLY person on the road.

1-3 Minutes. Manual says 1 minute "even in the coldest of weather". Usually its perfect amount of time to brush my car off and go go go. If you let it idle up to warm its likely to clog the cat, it pollutes more at idle and for a longer period of time. They build these things for the 16 year old chick who races to school every morning, I think it'll run just fine after 2-3 minutes. I've done a fair amount of research about the topic and the general findings are as I said.

i'll add my 2 pennies.

I let my car warm up in any weather 90 degree or 10 below,
unlike my gf's car she never lets it warm up and lately it's been 20 degrees oustide, all i can do is shake my head. While her car is a '99 toyota corolla(62,***) mine is of course a honda '94 (174,000) i don't think she'll make the miles i'm makin on top of that she changes her oil once a year. ANyway just let your car warm up before you go, After all a car is like a person, Do you see ppl just run out the house when they wake without being fully awake.

97 accord ex i4 105k
1-3 mins the rpms are at around 1500
if i have to reverse and i'm in a rush
i turn the ac on
rear defrost
shift into drive
start turning the steering wheel as i shift into reverse to drop the rpms a lil
most of the time i just park it backwards so i don't have to reverse at a cold start

01 lude sh 20k
1-2 mins

i agree with the guys that said drive it lightly until it warms up

your average driver doesn't know **** about cars let alone how to treat it.

my cars are my babys

unneccisary, unless you are only taking a extremly short drive there is no reason to let it "warm up." Unless your windows are fogging up and you need to wait for the heat so you can see it is uneccisary. Very short drives are the worst thing you can do to your car, stuff does not have time to heat up and reseal and relubricate. As long as you do not gun it, and immidiatly start racing when you turn your car on you should not need it. The drive should allow the car to warm up enough and reseal everything.

no matter where you are going its always best to let your car warm up. when you start the car after its been off for a long time. all the fluid inside the engines cools off and settles down. and in very cold seasons (for those who live in cold and hot seasons) the fluid will infact stiffen abit when not in use for several hours. its recommened from the honda dealers and techs themselves to allow your car a few minuets to warm up before going any where. my wife use to use to have an old mazda MX6 and would just turn it on & DRIVE. that use to annoy the heck out of me, but i never said anything. heh. but now she has a 6th generation accord coupe. and trust me after i gave her a good talk about the whole warming up bid. she lets her car warm up as long as i do for mine. atleast she has the auto starter. i have an auto start too but i lost both of my boxes a while ago.

i dont know but, when i was reading the 97 accord se manual it say that it dont need to be warm up, just get in and drive... i dont trust none of that **** tho. i wait till my car warm up normally letting it sit for 5 min. basically i use my auto starter and start the car then put on my shoes and jacket etc then by the time i am out there car ready to go.

I remember something like that. I just looked and couldn't find it again, but I remember that it said that 30 seconds was needed for cold weather, to a maximum of one minute for really cold weather.
