Default Replace or rebuild?

My 94 gsr has 120k, tranny is fine, but find myself wanting to get the next level with lsd and maybe final drive. If I get an ITR lsd, around $350 or so. Get that installed with pull and reinstallation is gonna be $600 or so, from what I can tell. But, what might be lurking in a tranny with 120k? Bearings/syncros ready for replacement, that's my guess. So more $$$. Better to get a new/lo mile ITR lsd tranny? And, if I go usdm or jdm, what is the impact on mileage, since 99% of the car's life is dd.

I know the lsd will be great for spirited driving, and rain.

Thanx!

Thx, that's where I was heading. I jumped the gun and bought an ITR lsd, but when I started talking to shops realized I was ahead of micelf. As usual... I mean only the lsd, which I thought would be easy/cheap to put in the stock gsr tranny.

Nice wagon. Had an 83, loved it. Simple, runs still...sold to a friend.

So which final drive did you go with? Know how it will change things?

I was in the same situation as you, just not as serious so i didnt do it. But while researching and thinking about it i came up that it would be better to just get an ITR tranny since 120k is pretty high and if you're gonna do some serious auto xing or what not a 94 gsr tranny with 120k might not handle it well. good luck.

Thx for the input. I have to resist these urges! More research and less buying. Sheesh.

Um, how'd you lose points Sue? I mean on your rating.

Yeah, it would be good to do some research before jumping into anything and regreting it later. But i mean, in terms of efficiency and reliability I think getting the whole tranny would be a better idea, since i mean on my 94 gsr (with around the same miles as you) the tranny feels kinda shot and might need replacing anyways.

And as for this, I have no more of a clue than you do lol...it really pisses me off though cuz they took away my avatar. I was at 98% one day and they gave me a reason why, but then one day i was at 91% and didnt know what i did so i asked like 5 mods and they were being asses and didnt tell me anything, but watever it's just the internet

Weird, you must have been bad...not! So how does your tranny feel shot? Grind going into gears? What are you gonna do, rebuild or buy new?

haha, well my tranny just doesnt feel strong but it still goes into gears and hardly ever grinds. It feels somewhat shot maybe due to a bad clutch job i just had and never bothered to readjust it, but if it ever does die on me i'd definitely go for a new transmission rather than to rebuild, cuz if u think of it tranny rebuilds are somewhat labor intensive and might cost almost as much as switching a tranny.
