Default Keep my Ls Motor or B16a?

My brother found a good deal on a ctr motor and hes willing to give me the b16a with b16 lsd tranny for free; while he can sell my ls motor and keep that money. I was wondering which one is better to have in a 97 ls teg body? and will a b16a fit right in? wat kind of mounts does it take?

a b16b is nice to have, but i agree with what ^^ said, and also i wouldnt lower displacement (1.8 - 1.6), especially since tegs are a little heavier, we need that torque more than the lighter civics. tell him you will take the tranny and pistons, and he can keep the rest! im pretty sure that tranny has lsd, and those pistons will do wonders for compression in a b18. as far as mounts, both b series so your good

ya the b16a is from his hatch... I meant that his b16a motor already has a b16 tranny with phantom grip lsd, which he wont need; since the ctr motor is complete and already have a tranny. And hes buying the ctr motor, which i can decide to keep my ls motor or take his b16a motor; and he will sell either motor to get his money back.

keep your ls engine and trade trannies. the b16 motor won't make a difference, but the tranny will.

i would take the b16. then look around for a b18 or b20 shortblock. when i did an ls swap on my hatch i got a b18b1 longblock with papers and ecu and wires for 350. anyway, ls/vtec is all im trying to say

the b16b wont make it much better...its still making the same torque...its still a 1.6 liter..You will still be the little engine that couldnt...

if you really want the b16 just so you have "vtec" then go w/ it and boost it. that solves ur torque problems. remember to keep your long geared LS tranny tho. boooost, pshhh, boooost haha.

You got it backwards on both parts. Why would you swap in a smaller-displacement engine with less torque in, to make your car slower, and then miss the opportunity of swapping in a shorter-geared tranny which would have made your car faster?

You can boost either car and I'm sure boosted LS would still be better than boosted B16. No point in having vtec if your car's still as slow as non-vtec (or slower). Your car will probably feel really slow off the line and in first and second with the B16 (there was a post about a week ago about a guy that swapped his LS for a B16 and complaining that it felt weak).

I suggest you keep your stock LS and take the B16 LSD tranny. Then, instead of wasting money on building a (reliable) LS/VTEC, turbocharge the LS and you'll have a fast car.

Oh and don't tell your brother that his B16 LSD tranny is worth a lot more than your stock LS tranny either.

Just swap trannys and then throw some valvetain, 404's, P30's, and ARP rod bolts on your LS

i didnt say it was a better setup. i only suggested that IF he really wanted the b16 over the ls. i know some ppl out there do the same thing just to say "yea. it's vtec." theres a reason why the b16 is popular. yea, its a great motor. but i wouldnt drop it in my teg.

but the b16 isnt that great. Why would you put it in any car, not just a teg? a b16 is the last motor i would ever choose to swap in any car

either spend some cash and buy his b16 swap so you can build a lsvtec, or just keep your ls and boost it.

a b16 has a ton of positives to it. first off, why wouldnt you rather have a b16 than a d16? second, the short stroke of the b16 is completely different than the 1.8 stroke. you can rev way higher, and get serious power at high end with bigger cams. the b16 head flows way better than the ls and gsr head. yes the displacement and torque of the 1.8 is always good to have but there is nothing wrong with the b16 at all. just not in a heavier teg. actually for a while the baddest engine honda made was the b16a2 that was in the del sol. it made 170 to the wheels, the same as a gsr, with 200 less cc's.

No the pr3 head doesnt outflow the p72 head in any significant way...Ok and who cares how high you rev? Power is power, if it takes you less rpms to make the same power (WHICH IT WILL ON A B18 BY THE SHEAR NATURE OF THE FORMULA OF HP)...who cares?? And in all honestly I prefer the angle of the intake ports on the p72 over the pr3..

Take the b16 and sell it. Go LSVTEC and save the rest of the cash for something else.
