Default My turbo d series build thread.

Where to start.... well i bought this ef back in the spring for 1500. was stock. here it is the day i got it.

I got sick of the 4x4 look, threw a suspension setup on it some crx si wheels and other small stuff. But i was still lacking under the hood. so i decided i mise well turbo my car. so i am finishing up a z6 swap now and did a mild build on the motor so it can take the amount of boost i wanna give it. I have also pieced together a turbo kit. Heres some pics of the work that has/is being done.

Lowered on new suspension setup.

Removed wore out d16a6

car was repainted silver metallice but the engine bay was still red so i painted it flat black.

Worked on the motor a little bit while it was out. I want to make sure the motor will be able to handle the boost safely. so i installed arp headstuds, new oem timing belt, water pump, oem headegasket, etc. I am using a crx si tranny and i put on an xtd stage 3 clutch and 8lb flywheel.

Than threw the z6 in my car.

As for the electrial issues i have converted fully to obd1 using rywire and it turned out great. The car started right up after the dizzy wires were in the right place. haha.

NOW for the turbo stuff....

i have been collecting turbo parts for a while. heres what i have..

precision 440's
dsm bov
p28 ecu chipped with 9psi basemap (will have it pro. tuned also)
hf manifold
hondata
custom ic piping (bends provided by racing sollutions)
ebay fmic
turboxs boost controller
t3 adapter plate

Still need to find a t3 turbo and will be buying some stealthmode oil lines soon.

Here are some pics of the intercooler piping and intercooler install i have been working on in the past few days.

I know the welds on the piping arent the prettiest. But i will be grinding them down and water testing them to make sure they willl not leak.

and my frount mount.

I usually try to get something done every couple days so i will update frequently with pics of the build/fabrication. Thanks.

Nice, what size is that intercooler, and if you know, the name?

Looks really good.

good job for doing it yourself are you grinding the galvanizing off of your pipe before you weld? that will go a long way to keeping the weld pit free. even if you grind it down afterwards, you'll still have a contaminated weld.

started it up and drove it for the first time tonight. drove alright. kind of bogging but it could be due to the broken tps sensor. The tranny also seems to have a humming noise. may be clutch break in? I dont know.

Great start
I carry those same front mounts

I'd cut the welds out and use couplers and T Bolts though.

rework the charge pipes..even though theres that much welds on it..looks like theres a leak no matter how many beads are laid down..pressure test it with air instead of water...otherwise looks like a good start..

yea i am thinking of just cutting new pipes and using couplers. I dont trust the welds. Anyways. For an update. I got my swap finally running. Still have a couple issues with a bouncy idle i have to take care of but other than that things have been going well. I also installed new axles. ill have some pics of this beast on the road within a few days.

something else to consider is to tack or mark up your pipes how they need to be, then just take them to a good welder. you might pay a bit more, but by the time you add up all the couplers and t-bolts if you use those, it tends to add up quick. then you know its done well and you wont have to mess with it again.
