Default Steering wheel grinding noise....

If someone would check to see if thiers does this too id appreciate it.

If you get in your car, crank it up, (keep the radio off) and turn your wheel all the way from one side to the other slowly, does it make a plastic-on-plastic grinding noise? If not I'm taking mine in.... I've noticed it lately when driving around campus (10mph) so turns are slow enough to hear it. Doesnt sound too good.

Never experienced it... COULD be a bad cable reel -- basically a part that sits between the steering column and steering wheel that reels all of the wires for your air bag, cruise and audio controls and prevents them from being piniched - binding up. We replace them "frequently" on some of the newer pilots because they make that plastic on plastic noise.

Then again it could be something totally different but without actually hearing it thats my best assumption

also check to make sure the steering column covers arent rubbing against the back of the steering wheel. I've seen that happen before

Hmm.. the wires sounds more like it, because its not a constant grind its like a grind/poping noise...

I started getting that noise a couple days ago. It's like a creaking noise when it's turend in certain places. It only does it every once in a while though, i think it might be cause it's been really cold.

thats true, i havent noticed it until recently being in the lower 30s and 20s... I can feel it slightly, but it would be expected with the grinding noise it makes.
