bore is when you make the circurmference of the cylinder bigger. or bore can mean the diametere of teh cylinder
hone is when u use a tool to refinish or finish the cylinder walls, making it a rough or smooth surface depending on builder preference

So a bore taking a percentage of the cylinder wall off to either refinish or make more room for a slightly larger piston ? and a hone is just to make the cylinder wall smoother ?

your going to look for an automotive machine shop and i would guess that in la there's one on every other block

what are you trying to do first?
Before a final bore and hone is done to the cylinder walls, the machinist will measure the piston that you are going to use and calculate the necessary clearances for the piston and the walls. Each brand of piston will require a certain amt of distance between the piston itself and the cylinder walls, hence the name piston to wall clearance.
