Default Noob question, did a search.

From what I know a test pipe replaces the cat. Just a differnt version of a high flow cat (wrong?). Anyway I have a 96 civic coupe with a GSR motor and LS header. I just started to get code 67 (Catalyst system Efficiency Below Threshold), it comes on sometimes and goes back off. So my cat is clogged. It is the stock civic cat going into the stock civic exhaust. 160k on the car so I can imagine the cat is not an any shape to handle the breathing of a GSR. Now due to funds I dont have the money to upgrade to a header and exhaust. Im just looking to replace thet cat. Would it matter what kind of test pipe I should get or should I just go with a high flow GSR cat?

Thanks in advance. If im wrong about any of this please let me know. Im not exactly swift when comes to cars.

A test pipe will probably throw the same code. It's comparing the signals from the two o2 sensors. A high flow cat should do the job

I thought the code was only for a clogged cat? To much carbon built up. If I got a test pipe wouldnt the sensor see a smooth air flow and not throw the code?

nope prodigalson is right, you can get a test pipe but you will still have the code, if its your daily driver get a cat. stock cat flows pretty good when new.

Ok, my next question. If I went with a 2.5 in/out cat would they have any problems welding to a LS stock header and a stock civic ex exhaust? Or do I have to get a header with a 2.5 collector and a 2.5 exhaust?
