Charging System Question. Alternator & Battery Related (1994 Acura Integra RS Auto)
Ok here is my situation. I am an ASE certified tech and im scratching my head on this one.
I just recently put my car on the road after it has been sitting for awile, started driving it for about a week, no problems, then the car started doing some weird stuff, like the battery light would flicker and the temperature gauge would be erractic and the car would drop in RPM's (only about 2-300) and raise and drop. So I figured the alternator was not supplying correct voltage to the system and making my stuff go nuts.
Checked the alternator, charging at 11.9 Volts, problem found. Ordered another alternator (remanufactured) & Battery from a reputable parts company and put it on and it charged at 13.7 Volts and with loads on at 12.5 which sucks. Drove it home and the problem was worse. So I checked it again today and im charging at 12.4 Volts. WTF? but when I check the charge from the power cable to ground on the alternator I have 14.4 Volts. So almost a 2V voltage drop from the alternator to the battery termninals. All of my grounds are good, and I have no corroded wires or shorts, check resistance of the whole circuit and im good. Think I got a dud from the parts store or could it be something else?
