Default transmission lag between R and D 97 accord

i have a 97 accord auto 4 cyl. i flushed the trans at 68k with honda fluid. For some reason the entire time i have owned the car it will take about 2 seconds for the transmission to shift after i move the shifter from P R N to drive. when it is cold it may take 3 seconds and when warmer maybe 1-2.. you can tell when it goes into drive because it willnudge the car..
not to big of a deal i guess, i just let it go into gear before i hit the gas to go.. the fluid is up and still looks pretty clean 86k now.

anyone else have this?

Yes, same exact problem. Reverse shifts normally, but into drive has small nudge then perfectly normal it seems.

Honda auto trannys are garbage IMO. They are not ment to mess around in. When I first got my accord. I used to rev it in nuetral and pop it into drive and do burnouts and thats why my tranny is messed up now. O well, another reason to get the h22

Uhh, that's not good for ANY automatic tranny, Honda or otherwise.

yeah and honda trannys are some of the best built for the 5 gens there pal. plenty make it past 200k with no rebuilds. I'd like for you to find me a tranny that you can rev and pop that won't break. when you do i will buy you a new car.

Some of my old cars did that. You owe me a new car please...NOW!

BTW, no Honda automatic trannys are not that great. That's why most people refer to them as "slush boxes". I mean by comparison Honda is dwarfed by Chrysler in tranny problems, but still...

haha i meant now. You know how these games work, you can never win.

Anyways, i've only heard good things about honda trannys, i've seen 3 with over 250k on them with nothing but tranny flush. And i've only heard slushboxes from VW's haha. 100k warranty on a "sealed" tranny. hmm.

1996 up newer hondas have a delay built into pcm for that so you can't back up and slam into drive, made to have 1-2 sec. delay now. so like one of the last guys honestly said, neutral drops will ruin trans. buy a stick shift. control your power
