Default THE BEST tranny for a D15B?

I have a dx tranny right now :[ should I just get a 88-91 crx/civic Si tranny? Or is there a better option? Any trannys in JDM land come with stock LSD or anything fancy like that? Better gear ratio's for 5th gear lol, so it's not 4500 rpm at 60mph (exageration lol)! thx H-T

Go with a 88-91 Si tranny. It is a good tranny, i just put one on my 88 civic with a D16z6, it was a nice improvement. From what ive heard its the best D series transmission you can buy.

Si tranny is ok. i just put in a Dohc zc tranny. feels great. a get a tad less mpg then the Si tranny in 5th gear. but having equal lenght axles made me 60 ft times so much better. depends what ur car is for. if its ur DD get the Si tranny.

I also have a dx tranny with my D15b and I can't stand it. I'm hoping to get my hands on a si or ex tranny soon. Also does anyone know if you can install the 92-95 si/ex gears in a cable case?

I put a 1988 civic hatch back 5spd tranny in my 1991 hatch std. very low rpm in fifth gear on highway. Car stays very low in rpm through whole tranny gears. You need to switch your flywheel, and clutch for it to work, tranny shaft has different number of splines than 1990 or 1991.

people act like the DX and SI trannys have an ungodly difference in gearing...

3.88 vs 4.25 FD isnt that big of a deal...

hf 5th gear can be put in, i have on in my trans, also it is major improvement to use zc gears, shorter than si for 2-4 1st gear is prety much the same in all transmissions, use Si FD which is 4.25 or you can get aftermarket fd, i have a 4.72 or i know one company makes a 4.9, plus with the zc diff you can use the intermediate shaft and use equal length axles, no more tq steer.
