Why wont you make SFWD become more of a grassroots racing series instead of a cubic dollars wins racing series? We have ProFWD for that. Why not limit slick size and turbo size down to something REASONABLE....not a 71mm turbo(Matt Keller rule) The series is becoming monetarily unattainable for the people who would like to "compete"

Do you see this as a problem? And if so how do you plan to fix it.

that's why there is quick 16 and brackets
,
classes are made for those who can afford to race it. not be affordable and watch 11-12 sec cars go down the track.
as a fan, if i watch i want to watch some thing exciting and fast not boring and slow. and yes 11.0-10.7's is slow "these days for a street turbo honda"

everyone can build a 10 second honda, its evolve to be so easy now. mine was done on a stock motor yes stock and a bolt on turbo kit from sparks racing that's it 10.80's all day long on a stock trans with a stg 4 rps clutch with stock alxes and it ran for a long time. didnt even break that many axles either.

but it wasnt exciting to watch **** i couldnt even watch more then a couple of times on video its the same ol same ol "my own car"

fans and racers want to watch "fast"... wtf!!! was that a street car!! going 9.30 and 170 mph type of racing! that's what i want to watch not 16cars going 10 seconds. that was so 2002-03

if you cant afford to run the top 10 then you should just try another class. its the way the cookie crumbles, the more you fall behind the further the class will get so just run it and get better, i always saw it this way, you can build the sickest car and do all the top of the line stuff and never run it."like me" when you do this it gets frustrating alot because over time the sport evolves and your outdated. the best way is to run it as you can afford it. "race the dam car!" then your drive/passion will make you build it faster.doesnt matter what you have as long as you can qualify its all good. you cant be competitive out of the box unless you have the experience and drive with the car before. experience is key in developing a fast ride. no way around that. but ill tell you when i get out there ill do whatever it takes to make the field and win the race.

I think it just comes down to really stepping up your game. Take it as a challenge. I bet even if there was additional restrictions, the current top SFWD competitors will still be on top.

i busted my ******* *** to get my car SFWD ready for last year. i did everything i could in my budget, worked 3 jobs and paid everytihng out of pocket to be able to compete in that class last year. i am not arguing turbo and slick size here. i just kinda dont like your statement. a high 10sec civic slow? ok. not all of us can run mid low 9's. and to me there is a difference between running q16 and SFWD. it has to do a little with bragging rights. i think i did very well this year with a 3yr old b16. qualifying for the 2 races i took part in, and qualifying well in the second.

i am sorry, but i think that is a slap in the face for those who dont have a baller budget, and are trying their *** off paying for everything out of pocket.

done.

plain and simple, nhra isnt going to change the rules anytime soon to make racing easier for racers on a limited budget. you know what they say, if you want to make a little money racing, then start with a lot. if you cant afford to compete, then dont try, thats why they have brackets and ss.

agreed 100% i personally dont like the statement "who wants to watch 16 10sec cars going down the track", personally i do, and would want too much more than a 10.9 vs 9.50 in the final, we create classes to make good racing not domination!

I am not making stabs at the "faster guys" Just the way he worded his stament

it is exactly what i meant.

look at it this way ok, you have pro, mod, then fwd the rwd then brackets.

personally what makes you tickle when the pro rwd cars come up do there side by side burn outs @ 1800+ then go 6.40s @200 + within .300 difference...
or a 10/11 cars going at it. we love our class because its what we can afford....simple.
you cant ell me if everyone here had a budget they would be doing modified" "pro" whatever it may be it comes down to budget.

**** if i have 2 mil to work with you think ill build a s/fwd car as much as i love the class? youll see me doing side by sides with the big boys

thats just that simple thats what im getting at you race what you can afford, nothing more nothing less.

we love to go fast and be competitive while doing it . if you can build a sport car great but dont be mad when you cant handle the budget of the fast cars, i remember talking with one of the guys who runs the class and he doesnt make that much at all if nothing, but he has a 10.0 car and its legal.... that tells you something that you dont have the so called "baller" budget to drive to go that fast and yes money makes it easier but it doesnt make you fast, as to be competitive.

some people are more fortunate then others, but racers with drive and passion will get there first with or without money. its the willpower you want to suceed then the next guy, and if it doesnt work it just doesnt work but that will only make me more faster then you will ever be... "now do you see?"

dont take it personal,

and yes 11.0-10.7's is slow "these days for a street turbo honda"

10.0-10.7's is slow for a street honda in competition, dont get me wrong though, i love them. i have one and i still havent done a number less then 10.8 with it. so im slow and wont be a contender until i get it done. and i will.

its what you make of it, you can bust your *** and do all sorts of things but when you lose that drive you lose that passion to be the best, i go all out when its possible some may want to be conservative with theres, i blew up my motor on the dyno going for the glory and didnt even get on the track yet. when i did have enough power to go into the 9.90's-10.30's or lower very easily. but its all your drive to be the best some dont have that and some do. thats what sets the top guys from the bottom in any form of racing, in our form of racing.

if you have the mentality of i cant do it its too far from what i have, i have no money, i have noblahblah blah,,.... then you will never go anywhere. stay where you are its okay, thats you not me or alot of others that want to be the best, if i only had 5k to build a car to go fast with what you have, i would try everything to make that 5k into 10k before i did anything... then 10k to 20 until your ready to go to battle with the top10 in what ever class you choose todo so. its a pride thing. but like i said its not money its your passion to be the fastest, why restrict the guys that worked spent and sweated there 9.40's they deserve to be there, doesnt mean you cant be either.... money is good everywhere, you just have to know how to make it and then double it

i agree with what you said too, but when did i ever say limit the "faster guys" ? not me, i love seeing them progress, hopfully some day i will get there, and i will, it takes time as both you and i, and many others know......

i was mearly proving a point, you DONT always have to be the fastest to compete..... plain and simple, it deffinitely helps, but doesent always come out on top.......
i believe that passion/drive is what makes the "winners" in our class not the ones with the "baller budgets" making the most power, or having the best et

You look at any of the top contenders, of then and now, they have been doing it for a long time, they know their "****", they know what most dont, how to win! and that takes more than just HP#'s, ET's and Money

I see a lot of bright futures in some of the "slower" competetors today, guys that will do anything to take home that prize, title, ect, its deffinitely going to take time, but i know of a few that have the heart, passion, dedication to be on top, to rival the best. "they" will progress just like the rest....... maby not as quickly as some, but willl

Not directly going after you Ghostworks, (BTW love the car) just expressing some feelings (sorry for sounding like a reverend)

I will chime in. Ask them if this year at Pomona they can coordinate the whole having a guy in a quad take you to your pits at the gate and racers having to be in line for an hour to sign there liability release and get the arm band. They handled this in Las Vegas very well.

darren summed that up for me also, it wasnt an attack on youir thoughts, i gues i just took it a little the wrong way.

i am a firm believer, that if you can qualify, and get both yellows to come on and not go red, there is a chance for you.

The fans like good races, they don't care if they are 6 sec cars or 10 sec cars. A good side by side drag race is what is enjoyeable to watch. But if you want to race in a heads up class, be prepared to spend money, o yeah, and money usually wins.

PS...thats why I sold my Hot Rod car 3.5 years ago...haha

NHRA does have a class it seems to fit most cars. My street car won't be competive in the SRWD class, so I run Quick 16. If I don't qualify for Quick 16, I run brackets. It's all about getting out there and having fun with you car. If you are out there to win a championship, you better have deep pockets...haha

I still see it as a valid question to ask them...see what they say..since THEY make the rules and you dont. Since you yourself stated that EVERYONE asks the same question...seems like it would address a lot of peoples concerns with sfwd.

I think you'd have a nice series with a 67...or even a 61mm compressor wheel rule. I think you'd have people getting more efficient with their use of power instead of just slapping a 42R on Kseries and SHITTING on everyone. Better racing than having 2 people run 9's 5 people run 10's and 3 people run 11's in SFWD. And in all those classes you see 4 people break out of the 10 that qualified. thats not good racing IMO.

Im not saying 11's is fast. Im saying with a 61mm wheel you can still turn a great time....dare I say 10's.... with an efficient 61mm turbo you CAN make 650+...which has been shown to equate to 9's IF you have a good setup. Then you'd have RACING...not BREAKING...and factory backed teams mopping up people.

ID LIKE TO HEAR WHAT NHRA THINKS!!!!!!!!

yeah some one explain to me how come in the NDRA there seems to be faster cars in Turbo 4 than is Pro 4 with 1-2 exceptions, why wouldnt you want to see more competition in a PRO class and actually fill the class instead of a blow out in a supposed street class. Just my point is that a sportsman class is hardly that.

Because right now there are 9.50 cars and there are 10.50 cars. If you limit the class to a 61mm turbo, then there will be 9.90 cars and 10.90 cars, no difference. The fast will stay fast and the slow will stay slow. Everybody is working with the same thing here, 90% of the class is manual transmission B series.

Amen...Tony, the only reason you are so fast is because of all the money and sponsors you have...not your driving skill and ability to build and work on a car...don't you know that? It's all about the cubic $$$.

Darren is right on too!

like I said before...Id like to hear what NHRA has to say... NOT YOU. that IS what THIS thread is about. You can deny its validity all you want....but then again you are the ones benefitting from the current rules....so why would YOU want to change anything? And besides...even if we make changes to say a 67mm wheel...you'll still win because no one else knows how to put a strong combination together.

The rules are the same for everyone, how is anyone benefiting from them more than the next guy?
