Issues after a Transmission swap
Sorry if this post gets long, I'm trying to type everything that I can remember that is going wrong with it.
im not even sure where to begin...
90' Civic DX Hatchback...d15b. ... Car ran great until I let my bro drive it, he blew the tranny. We find a donor car, another 90 DX - supposivly there was an Si trans in it
.
Anyways, we spend the first 2 days trying to get the trans in, find out that the rod with the splines in the tranny were bigger then the stock one. (counted thread, both had 20, just one was bigger). We ended up having to put the clutch from the donor car in so the trans would fit.
Kid told me the tranny was an Si. I did some research and found out that it wasn't, unless I read it wrong. The code on the trans said PL3-A000 which would make it a DX, L3, or some other one...
Anyways, its impossible to pullout on a hill, it just wont happen. The clutch starts to dissengage as soon as i start to lift my foot, but it doesnt fully dissengage until i take my foot off the pedal.
my old transmission would sit at around 3k rpm at 70mph, this one, u can't even go to 5th gear at 70mph because it drops to like 1,500rpm and it wont hold a steady mph. After 2nd gear there is no acceleration, maybe a tad in 3rd but none in 4th or 5th anywhere.
...Im hoping its just the clutch that we put in and its old...but i'm not sure.
I need to get this fixed by the weekend, i can't keep driving like this. it probably is good on gas, but it sucks when I can hit 85mph in 2nd gear, and then there is no more acceleration. I shift from 2nd gear at 6k rpm and it drops to 3k rpm in 3rd. The highest I can get my car now is 90... 90?!!?! Thats nuts because I can hit 85 in 2nd.
Also, what kind of transmission do I have? I don't want to order a clutch for a 90 DX when the clutch that was in the car doesnt fit the transmission I put in the car.

The gearing can only be fixed by replacing the transmission. DX/HF trannys are long, yeah you're going to be at a low rpm at a higher speed, thats how "long" gear ratios are.
The clutch engagement and release has everything to do with the cable adjustment, a little to do with how worn out the clutch is and if the flywheel needs to be resurfaced, and nothing to do with anything else.
You wana fix it? Buy a clutch, flywheel and a SI transmission. no brainer huh?

I don't know how the hell im suposed to get through winter with this tranny.

Same thing happened to my old CRX Si. Told the mechanic not to put it in unless he was sure it was an Si tranny, jerk off put it in without checking. I would hit 92 in second gear it was rediculous.
This website is great for finding out what tranny you have in a CRX, I'm guessin it would work the same for a civic.
