i forgot to ask
which side did you tap the seal in through?

outside of the cover or on the inside of the cover

I took a look on my spare block to see the placement of the main seal and mine is flush
might wanna try reinstalling it and applying some hondabond on the outer ring of the seal itself

you should take off the housing to install it

once you take it off, clean the housing througly and make sure nothing is left on the seat for the seal

i just had this problem too. After a few hard pulls my car was leaking hard core, and i could have sworn it was coming form the main seal, and it turned out that my oil pan was bent in the tiniest little spot, and the bolts weren't in tight enough, so it was leaking out of the side of my oil pan and dripping down, right under the main seal. So, i guess my question is, are you sure where the oil is coming from?

Did you just do the oil pan gasket? If so did you get the metal rings off of those two studs.
And yes, the oil pan gasket is mushroomed out too far you must clean everything really well with brake cleaner. The block, bolts and studs all must be very clean from oil. Then install it.

Probably just the oil pan gasket if you just did it. I hardly ever see rear main
seals go on Honda's. Previous post is absolutely right. Have to check all of the studs on the block where the oil pan fits. I thinks there more than 2 metal rings that could be caught.

I too just experienced this problem. I thought it was the main seal but it would have been all over my flywheel. Turns out my gasket "scrunched out" because I tightened the oil pan bolts too tight.
