Default 2001 Prelude

Need some advice. I have a 2001 Prelude and I'm ready for the 105,000 mile maintenance. Would it be recommended that I have the water pump changed at this time regardless of the condition? Any positive or negative experiences out there? Any advice on the maintenance. I have called a number of Honda dealers and they all give me different story on their 105 maintenance requirements. Feel like calling Honda and ratting their asses out.

Any advice is appreciated.

If you change out your timming belt, change out the water pump. Its pretty much the same job. Its time anyways to do both if youve never had them done.

It's real easy to replace while you've got all the covers off and you are doing the belt, if you leave it & the pump starts to fail then you have to remove it all again to get at the pump. Plus it's peace of mind for the relative small cost, knowing it's new & not likely to fail in the near future and cause engine damage.

In addition to the water pump, i suggest the oil pump, while you are in there just for piece of mind.

Pardon my ignorance...but the oil pump is located on the timing belt compartment?

You don't need a new oil pump by any means. List of things to do:

Tbelt- while changing the tbelt, convert from auto tensioner to manual tensioner
Waterpump
Brake fluid
Coolant
Clutch fluid
Valve adjustment
Transmission fluid
Air Filter

That wouldnt hurt, those along with the cam cap too. They always tend to leak.

Excellent thanks for the advice all.

Had the work completed and everything so far has worked out great.

One thing everyone should know. My 2001 Prelude has 99,000 miles on it and the timing belt and or tensioner was making a noise. Had the work completed and the noise is gone. I did not ask the dealer if the belt was clearly worn or the tensioner was trashed. My main point of the post is that the belt would NOT have made the recommended 105,000 mile change. I've had a number of them changed over the years and all looked relatively new when changed and all looked like they could have lasted many more miles. Not the case in this situation. Just an FYI to all.

Anyways, thanks for the advice.
