We have a 2000 Honda Civic. My wife called me this morning and told me it died. I first thought it was the battery but she said that it does start but then almost immediately dies when she gives it gas or puts it into gear. Anyone have any ideas of what I can look at before I call a tow?

any work done to the car motor, and/or electrical systems?
engine internals, alarm/remote start, ignition......

Sorry for not including any info. In answer to the questions posed:

There has been no engine work done on the car or electrical systems.
No alarm, remote start, etc.
No engine light on.

We ended up having the car towed and after looking at it, they said the car is in dire need of a major tune-up (its approaching 70k miles). They changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap, distributor rotor, fuel filter, air filter, and gave it an oil change because they said the oil was flooded with fuel (I've never heard of that happening before). Total cost ... $670. I know a lot of that stuff could have been done by myself but since the car was already at the shop, I just had them do it.

 

ouch, you could have done all of that at home for under 200 and thats going and buying tools you needed if you didnt already have them.

 

there's someting about that.. my dad had to bring in his car.. cuz the thing completely died on him. i forgot what it was.. but it didn't need a tuneup.. lols my dad doesn't even do tuneups on his 4dr civic (2000). It already has 145k. no tuneup. no new water pump. no new nothing. still the same from stock factory. I'm pushing him to get it tuned up, and get a new tbelt and water pump though.

omg....so the shop that did all this stuff to your ride "said" that "it needed it done"???? i hope you got a written quote for that cuz you prolly just got ripped outa 6 hundred and change.
the question i wanna know is after they did all this work...did it actually fix anything?
