Default Swapping a non-pwr steering rack into my 92 Si?

How hard would it be to put a non-power steering rack into my 92 Civic Si? I don't plan on ever running power steering and would just as well like to eliminate the weight of the power rack and get the lower geared rack so it's easier to drive.

I've got a 94 CX hatch too for a daily driver. Would it be possible to rig up the power steering rack into that car and run the CX rack in my Si?

You have more turns lock to lock with manual steering, but if that isn't a problem for you, then it is able to be swapped. You just change the rack and pinion out.

If you search around, there's also quite a bit of talk about using your stock PS rack w/o a pump by looping it.

keep the PS rack and run a breather system. It's easy to turn still, and like stated above, has a better ratio

The Si is going to be an off the road drag car. I have zero desire to keep the weight and additional engine bay complexity of power steering. It's not going to be set up to turn so I don't care about the better ratio.

The CX would be nice to have power steering in since it's the daily driver and will be set up to be a little AutoX/track day car. It didn't come stock with power steering though (obviously) so I was wondering how dificult it would be to swap power steering into that car.

I'm not dead set on putting power steering into the CX though. The bigger goal is to put a non-power rack in the Si. I'm guessing there's not much to it?

you will need to fab up a mount as the subframes on the p/s equipped cars are diff then the non p/s cars. also, you need the universal joint that connects the rack to the column, as the shaft size for the rack is different.

If you've already got an Si and a CX, and are just interested in swapping the power steering over from one car to the other, you ought to just be able to take the parts that are different and swap. It's not like you're going to have to source a bunch of parts if you've already got both cars there.

At worst, if Rodney is right and the subframes are different, you'd be looking at getting a different mount, or just swapping out the subframe. It just bolts on. If you've got tools, this doesn't seem like it would be too hard to make happen.

That's the kind of info I was looking for... Damnit, I might just wait until I get back to the mainland to mess with it.
