Can I swap my final drive on my Y1 trans?

I have a Y1 JDM cable transmission from CRX/CIVIC SiR (EF-8/9) with a Quaife LSD on a GSR bottom end with a PR3 head. The Y1 has a 4.266 FD.
The gearing is not bad for the highway but I want to drag race it. I was wondering if I could replace the FD with a 4.40 unit and what would be the overall effect.
Here is the current gearing:
1st: 3.166
2nd: 2.052
3rd: 1.416
4th: 1.103
5th: 0.870
FD: 4.266
Thanks

You sure can. The best gearing for cable trans I found is S1 gear clusters and the 4.26 final but the Y1 and 4.40s will work good also.

Great, a guy with personal experience
Can you please explain the difference I will "feel" or "experience" between the S1 with a 4.26 and the Y1 with a 4.40?

Is the car turbo or allmotor. The s1 cluster with 4.26s feels alot like the gsr trans I have now which is great for a turbo car. I think the y1 cluster with 4.40s would be better in a allmotor application.

When you use the 4.4 final drive make sure you use the matching counter shaft (AKA Pinion gear). Your 4.2 counter shaft will not work with the 4.4

Always use a matched ring and pinion set. 4.40 will show you some improved acceleration characteristics with the downside being lower top speed.
