Default First MIG Welds

Tell me what you think. Its nothing too spectacular. just extended a plate for a fire extinguisher to rest on.

Just to explain how it went together cause it looks a little weird.

Thats how it was set up.
First picture is top down, second is bottom up.

If you set the dials yourself than that is pretty good for the first time.

Thats called a lap weld. Your welds look out of control. Heat up, feed down. (within reason)

So how do you tell from the weld if you need to up the heat or change the feed?

You can see how "on top" of the metal the weld is. That means your feeding too much into heat, without the heat to melt it into your metal properly. You want it melted down in the metal a little more and not sitting on top of the metal. Other than that...looking damn good for your first time!

Im no welder, but it looks as if you need to clean your surfaces a bit better.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be in the shop sometime this week and do some more on scrap pieces.
