Default Below 1700lbs (w/160 driver) possible without going tube chassis?

I was wondering if it were possible to for me and a civic or crx to get 1700lbs or below without having to go the tube chassis route? I would hate to find out that I would need to have all of the windows lexaned (then again, it would probably be best to go with lexan windows), and I would also hate to find out that I would need an all fiberglass body (or just an all fiberglass front end).

What do you guys think??????

Might be possible(w/o driver) in a crx with lexan windows and 1 piece front end. Turbo and cage will add an extra 140-160 lbs.

my old CRX HF, no fiberglass on it. stock hood, and doors, stock HF seats, dash w gutted underneath. Hatch was lexaned. No cutting on the body, no cage, all glass windshield, door windows and side windows.
I had it down to 1540 w/o me in it. setup was an all motor single cam so obviously didnt add more weight in the car.

What year model was the car?

I was thinking about going with an 87 crx si, however, it would be financially dumb to go with the mounts that Hasport sells since they want an arm and a leg for them. I suppose that I could make my own, but what a pain.

The dude that has the 87 si, says he has an 85 hf. Whould this be a waste of my time and effort?????

How about 88-91 CRX HFs. They are only about 1825 or so w/o driver. Its easy to take out 150lbs out of that car

Talk to Mike Lindquist with the black 92 cx hatch. Screen name is bearsEK

He races in the local track's import series and I bet it weighs close to your goal weight of ~1,700.

I have a CRX that weighs 1731 w/ me in it , still has stock glass and stock front end . It had an LS v-tec at the time. We are now putting Lexan windows all the way around so it should be in the 1600 lb range with me in it.

There was a stripped circuit crx from japan that was in one of my "best motoring" vids, and it was just below 1500lbs without the driver. The car was allmotor though........

I don't plan on going the turbo route. I want to go the lightweight nitrous route. I want to run et's anywhere between mid 11's to low 12's. This is why such a lightweight car is soooo critical. I've never been a real fan of turbocharged entries. Of course, that's just my opinion, which the constitution gives me the right to have.

An EG rolling chassis? Good luck finding one here in Louisiana. And if you do find one, you'll be paying 2 to 3 times as much for it than that of an EF. Now to move onto the 84-87 crx, I will start off by saying it has it's own problems. Finding one for me is not at all difficult, but the mounts alone are nearly 3 times the value of the car itself, which sort of makes me want to fab my own. In the end though, the 84-87 model would be the easiest to get lighter, in turn, giving me more of what I was looking for.

I've given up on the hopes of finding an EG for a realistic offer. Which ever car I end up getting, will never see the street, except for when it is being hauled on a trailer, etc. F##k street racing! Not worth it!

Is my perspective not so good, or does my perspective sound halfway plausible? I guess it all depends!

more parts for the 88-91 vs the 84-87. As in suspension, etc. I'd go with the 88-91 rather than the 84-87 for a race car.

My old 85 Civic was about 1560 and it was GUTTED. Even went to a single leaf spring beam rear axle to drop weight. I can't imagine a lighter street car than my old one. Photos at http://www.allmtr.com

Having said that, I'm hoping to get my new turbo car down to that kind of weight...

Just get a HF CRX and you will be off to a great start. You can get them cheap and they are very light to start with.

I have an 87 DX CRX all motor car. Its not at all worth it to use this body style. Stock weight is 1800 but the original engine and tranny is very light and adding a b series adds nearly 150 lbs. I have only a Dash, carpet, 1 seat, and head liner with the dash empty and my car is 1775 w/o me in it and over 2000 with me in it cuz Im 230+. 1988 CRX HF is probably the lightest body you can get.

Mine is for sale by the way and it runs 11s without nitrous so a little spray would probably wake it up
