HELP! how do u know if a GSR engine is Legit or STOLEN??!?!?!
hey guys...i was just wondering...i know this may be another NOOB question... but where can u find the VIN # on the Engine block?
so far i know you can find VIN #'s on your
lower windshield
trunk
door jam
transmission
but ive been lookin around the ENGINE BLOCK to see if i can find a VIN # and i couldnt find anything...
i only see the part that says B18c1 and few #'s under it...is that it? and how do i find out if its the original motor? or not....thanks guys...

There is a VIN tag on the motor and trans. The VIN is also engraved into the firewall on the pass side.
As far as knowing if it is origanal or not, match the vin to the one on the firewall and the doorjam.

but see thats the thing...i only see the VIN # on the tranny... but on the ENGINE BLOCK itself...i cant find it at all ....ive been searching and cant see it...
Depending on the year of your block, I think you may or may not have a vin tag. for 94-95 gsrs, there's no vin, but only a serial number under the engine code. for 96-newer gsr blocks the vin plate is on the bottom right of the block when you're facing it. i'm not sure if there's really a way to see if a 94-95 block is stolen though; i don't believe there's a way to trace a block thru the serial only. can anyone chime in on this?

if the engine is 96+ the vin will be behind the header.

yea the car engine is a 99 GSR... so the VIN # is behind the header? meaning when i pop their hood... will i be able to see it by just standing there? or will i have to take off their header? sorry if that sounds weird but i just wanna know exactly what you guys mean...thanks...

no, you can't see it just by standing there looking at it. i just looked at mine and it's right above the oil pan in the front, get underneath the car and you'll see it.
BINGO! thanks alot bro.... i found it....i had to jack up the car and go underneath...as i took out the plastic cover...i had to search it and its right undernearth the header on the top left side of the oil pan.... the motor is legit and matche the VIN # on the car...thanks alot...hope to learn more from you soon...
