I've used the same california car duster for years. I've always had black cars so dust has always been an obstacle. It works great, no scratches or anything.

Did they ever cause any scratches/swirls? Do you just lightly brush it over the car or what? How do you clean it?

I don't have a certain way and I've never scratched the paint.

I used to use the California duster. It worked good but now I prefer to use a quick detail spray (Poorboys Spray and Wipe) and a nice microfiber towel.

I have/do use it on a black car. Works awesome. Leaves no scratches. Using a light sweeping motion in one direction as to not "grind" the dust into the paint.

I might pick up one, my car seems to love static and make the dust stick

I use the california duster as well and it works great. I had some mud on my rear bumper once and it took it right off.

I have the california duster and a small oxo one for the interior - they're the exact same thing though. Just let the weight of the duster do the work while you glide it over the car. No scratches either...follow that up with some quick detail spray and it's as good as a fresh wash.

Despite what is said about the CCD not scratching, it does.

Even with light pressure the duster is still attempting to remove dust particles with no lubrication, meaning they are rubbed off the surface and onto the paraffin coated fibers on the brush. This, over time, will lead to small scratches commonly known as swirls.

The fact is, anything that comes in contact with the paint without proper lubrication will scratch or swirl the finish, even microfiber towels.

For light dust, I like to use Meguiar's Quick Detailer or NXT Speed Detailer and a soft microfiber towel
