Looking for second opinions on upcoming project...
I'm planning on my rebuild next summer (since the Lude will be paid in full come March--YES!!), and with the setup I'm going with I'm using OS Type-S pistons (I'm not asking if I should choose a another piston setup or what numbers they'll yield so don't tell me to do a search). My question is should I: a) Have the cyclinders bored to spec on the block I have now, or b) buy a used Type S block?
I'm well aware that once you start messing with the insides of a motor, it becomes an ongoing project and I'm not looking for that--but I'm wondering if boring the cyclinders will cause any future problems because that means risking finding a good machinist. I'm leaning towards getting a Type S block and making it easy on myself since my dad is a mechanic and we could do all the work ourselves if it doesn't involve machining.
What do you guys think? Is the machining a little risky as far as reliability goes, or is it a minor job that wouldn't significantly affect it? Those of you who recommend boring the cylinders AND who have had good machine work done, minor or major, could you recommend anyone close to the Nashville area?

you can bore the cylinders over .25 in order to fit the OS pistons without worry of reliability. Just as long as the machine shop knows about FRM sleeves and the correct stones to use in boring and honing and you will be ok.
talk to Jim Justice about getting your block bored out.
i just got mine done about 5k miles ago. i love it!
i have some very slightly used type s pistons for sale if you are interested for 150 shipped. they have about 35-40 miles on them (block was warped and coolant was getting into the oil)

How do I get a hold of Jim Justice and where's he located? Also, I already have a set of new OS pistons and rings hiding in my closet, lol--but thanks for the offer.
