Which exhaust for best performance?
So I'm finally getting an exhaust for my h22 swap. I got intake and headers but no exhaust yet, and I've been reading through all the exhaust threads and wondering what I should do to get the best performance out of the engine. My friend on here told me to get a 3" exhaust and says he can prove that it makes more power than a 2.5", which in my mind makes sense, because let's say in the 1/4 ur runnig a 2.5" exhaust, people always say u'll get improved times if u run open header, so wouldn't that mean getting a bigger exhaust than 2.5" would yet still perform better and give u more horsepower. Just wondering what u guys think. And also custom exhaust seams to be alot cheaper, should I go for a custom exhaust made by a shop over a brand name exhaust? Thanks for any input and advice.
yeah i would recommend k-teller. im going to look into them when i redo mine, but from what ive read. having a bigger exhaust doesnt always yield more hp. open header gets the exhaust out of the car quicker, having bigger piping doesnt necessarily mean the exhaust will get out of the car quicker. bigger piping would give less back pressure (in some situations like NA) so it would take longer for the exhaust to get out of the car. with NA the rule of thumb ive always been told is 2.5 at max.
bigger exhaust mean no back pressure. Which is good for turbo'd cars. but you would probably want to go with a 2.5". Thats what i used to have, and it worked great. But 3" would be nice too.
dunno when i ever wanted back pressure.....
and this isnt h22 related but.....

I was just told by someone that you would want a certain amount of back pressure if you were NA. But i am not sure whether or not that would be true. I know when i was NA i use 2.5 and it was fine. But I am sure 3" would have been just as good.
B.Rabbit, you have 3" on your prelude? if so, is it custom? or kteller? i could never find any prelude exhaust bigger than 2.5 for prelude's other than Kteller's system

its what i am going to in the near future. Gonna be building it myself so you wont find it anywhere.
its not going to be a typical exhaust either. It will end with a turn down before making the first turn to go around the gas tank. approximately 3 feet of straight stainless piping and 2 small resonators.

That sounds sweet! Will it still clear the rear axle? I was going to dump mine off so you could not see it from the rear, but NHRA has a rule about the exhaust dumping after the rear tires so i didnt do it. :/

I have a 4" all Aluminum on my H22 Prelude right now!

it wont go to that far. The exhaust will end before the gas tank, right before the first bend in the exhaust.

That is kinda what i wanted to do also. only one bend, and looks stealth. Great idea
if it werent for that rule i would be doing the same thing.

muffler less N1
since we are on the topic, did you guys know that the N1 is 2.25" piping?

well we got a little off topic ... haha. but whatever you choose, 2.5 or 3. it will be fine imo. neither will be bad. Kteller has both if you go that route. or you can do something custom and inovative like B.Rabbit.
Ok thanks for the ideas then guys, the only reason I'm really thinking about getting a 3" is because somone on here told me and talked to me, he said that at least for his NA h22 that 3" made more dynoed HP than a 2.5. It was awhile ago and I haven't seen him on anymore, anyone ever see "IgotheCD5Jeebies" on anymore???

hope your gas tank doesnt have a meet and greet with a small flame outta that exhaust setup..
