Default Guys help me out here, I don't know Hondas....

First off, not a hater. Yeah, I'm a domestic, but I respect those that mod their cars and get results, import or domestic.

I don't know about your cars, but with mine, realistically, I can expect about 40 HP from intake/exhaust/headers and PCM (computer) programming. I've had a dialogue with some guy who is telling me this about his 1999 Civic Si (?) with a VTEC:

"dude i know my 0-60 is off, i just gussed(its proly like 6.3) but i am running 210 hp. thats for sure. i had it dynoed.i will list my mods........aem cold air intake, saleen computer chip, greddy exuast, and greddy headers. it had 160 hp stock then i put every thing on it in about two weeks and had it dynoed. so there is the truth!!!!!! happy now. i am not lyeing about the 210 hp!!"

I just want to know what the deal is. He originally said he had a turbo, now he doesn't. First it was 300+ HP, now it's 210 after I urged him to come clean. He said he did, but I don't know. Saleen chip for a Honda? WTF?

The VTEC is an excellent engine, no doubt. Variable timing is the future for cars, IMO, and Honda was in on it first. But how much can an intake and exhaust add? What about headers? Chip?

If someone could point me to a good info source so I can arm myself against liars, I'd appreciate it. I already know a domestic liar when I hear one, I have that angle covered.

Thanks.

Eric

What is your accepted drivetrain loss percentage? Ours is about 17% for the GM 4L60E (auto).

That's a Civic Si alright. But 210hp with bolt-ons is quite impossible...even with a "Saleen" chip...lol

I have come up with a term called "Dimport", or "Domestice Import."

Welcome to the board though. Props for the VTEC spelling! Not many can get that right the first time.

There is no way he's making 210 to the wheels. He is more likely making somewhere close to 165. You never no though, I'd say the aftermarket radiator hose alone is worth 20 horsepower

you get props for not hating on us "ricers"
that kid is a freaking moron
his car will never see 200whp. not with those mods
saleen dosent even make a chip for a honda.
our drivetrain loss is about 5-15% (depends on a bunch of crap. its a honda not a performace car)
judging by the pics of his car he is a RICER and has no idea what he is talking about.
just slap him upside the head and say "you are the reason people who KNOW what there talking about and drive a honda are called ricers anyway"

here,
http://www.howstuffworks.com/question229.htm
just trying to educate my domestic brothers (what is vtec and how it works)

LOL, thanks for the warm welcome, I appreciate that, as well as the input and info.

No, I'm not a hater, I actually enjoy talking to "the other side," maybe I can learn something about how you guys make power and apply it to my platform. An engine is an engine, they all make power the same way, air, fuel, spark.

BTW, if you are interested in seeing my big, fat car, go here:

Again, thanks for the info and welcome.

unless those pics are old, that's not a AEM Cold Air Intake there.. it's only a DC sports DAC intake...

No no he's prolly pushing more than 210hp. Those Altezzas and 'Velocity' sticker give you an extra 50hp. And the purple fuel pressure riser, and blue painted power steering fluid cap, radiator hose caps, and oil dipstick is another 10hp, but the the stainless steel braided lines are another 10hp.
