You are supposed to wait until you're stopped before you shift...?

i have an LX. it does make that noise but i noticed it makes a louder noise when your parked up a hill or up a driveway but when its in a flat surface street it doesn't make that 'clank' noise. What i usual do is right before im about to switch it to D i leave in N for a few seconds then put on D and it won't make the 'clank' noise.

Mine makes that noise as well. Even from a dead stop in my garage.

I honestly think there is something wrong w/ something in my car, but my dealership and another one a bit further away both refuse to aknowledge any problems with it.

When Im driving w/ cruise on, randomly it will drop from 5th gear (cruising at like 75) down to maybe 3rd gear. No reason at all, Im on level ground, not like im going up a hil. Anyways, my rpms shoot the hell up and then it shifts right away back up again.

Sometimes Ill be on the highway and I need a lil passing room, so Ill go WOT to pass, and my car wont even downshift to gain any power. In fact, my car rarely downshifts when I press the gas at all, it just stays in that gear longer. How annoying.

Taking any sort of turn over 20+mph makes my car shake and has all kinds of popping noises going off.

Sometimes when accelerating, w/ maybe the pedal only halfway down, my car will decide not to upshift and Ill hit the rev limiter a few times before it decides to.

My most annoying problem: If I come rolling to a stop (lets say a stopsign for example), and then proceed to accelerate right afterwards, my engine starts like revving up in neautral and then clicks into gear, making everyone in the car snap back a tiny bit and my car to feel like its jerking off of its motor mounts. Drives me nuts, since its an auto. It only stays in the neautral-like stage for a second, but its long enough to make the car jerk and feel bad for it.

You really should come to a complete stop on an auto tranny before shfting into any gear.

As for the tranny clank, use your e-brake to hold the car and not the tranny. What I mean by this is when you park the car (especially on a hill even for autos), pull up the e-brake when you come to a complete stop, then shift into park, then take your foor off the brake. Don't put the car into park and then pull the e-brake.

When you start the car in the morning, put your foot on the brake pedal, shift into the correct gear (reverse or drive), release the e-brake, then take your foot off the brake and get on your way.

Elohel, I would definitely take your car to the dealer. There is something definitely wrong with your tranny.

LOL Holy Crap!!! Thats BAD. That must be one of those things that you can't get the car to do when you take it in cause if it did that when the dealership had it I would sure HOPE they would help you out. That sucks! I agree something is wrong!

I have noticed that almost all '06-'07 Civics do this. It's a common issues. I am not sure what it is but I agree it makes the noise if you come to a complete stop or if you are rolling back a little bit. And everyone that is yelling about you shifting while rolling back almost everyone does that. I don't know of many people that hit zero (complete dead stop) before shifting from R to D. But even if you did you will still hear that clank. I think it's an issue, but I highly doubt they will find a fix. My (2005) V6 Accord does clicks lightly and my old 4cyl (1992) Accord would click a little too, but this new Civic is LOUD.

But the dealer line is "They all do that. It's working as designed." I am sure by 50K miles and when it falls apart they will say you didn't take care of it and they will want 4K for a rebuild.

I know it is bad.. but none of that stuff really happens consistently, and the guy says the tech person HAS to see it for himself when he takes it out, and it somehow never happens when I drop it off. I asked if they could just read the ECU or something and read the tach (Im not sure if the ECU logs this stuff or not) but it would show it.

Anyways, my dealer, and the other one a bit away from me, both shrug off most of that stuff as normal for the civic, and the others they just say they have to see before they can diagnose it. It pisses me off, none-the-less. I want to sell it, but I coudlnt live w/ myself passing off a car with only a few thousand miles on it when I know there is stuff wrong with it.

I used to have a 5th gen Accord when I first got my license 10 years ago, and I did the method of shifting into drive while rolling back and not coming to a complete stop. One time it made a really nasty sound, even thoughI had my foot on the brake the whole time when I shifted. It didn't sound right for a couple of blocks and from that moment on I always come to a complete stop. I'm not trying to scare you, but Honda auto trannies are not their strong suit(just look up 6th gen Accord auto trannies).

You really should come to a complete stop. Your car is an auto, not a manual. It will take an extra 2 seconds. Pretty soon someone is going to tell you it's normal to row through your auto tranny like it's a manual or to shift from drive to park when you are approaching your driveway.
