Default Motor and Transmission mounts

I was under my hood this past weekend . I was looking at my mounts , and noticed that my mounts the rubber (or rubber looking parts) had this crinkle like affect to them . the surface isn't smooth . Is this normal or is my mounts in the early phases of failure ? I never payed attention to them before but since they are made of a rubber compound I assume they are smooth . Are my mounts getting ready to give or is this just a natural aging process ?

natural... theres alot more to mounts than what you will see on the outside.. just make sure you have no "rips" or "tears" and take notice of this while someone else is in the car cycling thru the gears with the foot on the brake...
