Default Sputter butts and smoke

When I start my car with the engine cold, I have to hold my foot on the gas pedal in order for it to stay alive and not die. While doing so, The motor feels like it wants to jump out of the engine bay. I have to continue to hold my foot on the gas for about 25 minutes 'til the car warms up and the idle smooths out. Also, while waiting for it to warm up a smoke (Looks gray to me might be white... cant really tell.) fills my entire complex parking lot with smoke.

After the car warms up and I start driving, I can't get high in the RPMS like...4000 or above, or the engine sounds like its hitting a rev limiter and jerks violently.

But after some driving, shut the car off for a while, and go start it up again it is fine. Used to be able to go to 8200RPMs (9000 redline) but now I cant even get to 7500 barely.

Always changed the oil twice a month no matter what.

Just put in BOSCH 4 point spark plugs or whatever.

And I used seafoam about 4 months ago.

It didnt happen all of a sudden...just gradually became worse, now it its horrible.

first thing to check is ur oil level.dip that motor and make sure its not overfull.second thing and i dont mean to insult ur intelligence, but could u have put diesel in instead of petrol, its easily done and more common then u might tink.ditch those sparkplugs too, theyre a gimmick, stick with sinle tip ngk or denso.

Oil is fine. And no, I didn't use diesel. haha ! 91 Octane. Gas station I go to doesn't even have diesel.

Someone said I might have a fast idle problem. How do I tell?

are you really asking this? Do you ask yourself if you are hungry before you eat?

Have you changed your fuel filter recently?

Yes, I asked... I could have sworn this was the tech forum ! Sorry if I don't have an extensive knowledge of cars. And no, I have not changed my fuel filter recently.

Besides a head gasket, which is fine, what are possible other causes my car smokes the way it does?

well if the car sputters, it may not be getting enough fuel, hence if the filter is clogged, there is not enough gas to keep it running smooth. Try replacing that.

It runs fine after the motor warms up. It can still be the fuel filter? I'll have to change it out on sunday and see if that works. I also know that the motor is/was running rich.

how many miles on the car? It may be due for a fuel filter, although now that you mention it runs fine when warm, it might not be the fuel filter.

What year is your car? I assume (by your SN) that you have an EG.

However, if you have a '96-up car you will have to disconnect the evap purge solenoid to prevent the hard start condition.

92 civic DX with B16A2. Haven't done anything yet with the fuel filter. I was just fired for wearing a yellow shirt to work.
