Default 2nd gear grinds and abit notchy

i just brought an 02 rsx and sometimes when i shift into second gear, its notchy and grinds. i came across a thread that stated most rsx's from 02-04 models have problems on the 2nd gear, could this be it? would changing the transmission oil help with the grinding and notchy shifting? when i tested the car, it didnt have this problem. and it doesnt always occur, just occasionally when i'm making a turn and shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. any ideas???

I have an 05 Type-S, and went from Honda MTL -> Redline MTL -> Pennzoil Syncromesh (shifts like butter now!).

try changing your shifting style too. If you "hurry" the synchros, they'll grind every time. the 1-2 shift has the largest RPM drop, thus you need to give it a fraction of a second more time to complete. Shifts go much smoother if you let the engine rpm drop to what they would be in the next gear before pushing it through the shift gate.

A lighter flywheel makes for faster RPM drops and actually requires you to shift faster in order to have the correct timing.

Whatever you do, don't just resign yourself to "oh, it's a common problem" and continue to force the synchro into gear. Not all cars drive the same so make the adjustment, adapt to your transmission.

I've never had an issue on my 6spd gearbox. I used to have the 1-2 shift on my ep3 5spd gearbox grind all the time until I started giving it a split second more time, viola, no more grinds.
