Synchro help
The 3rd gear synchro is bad in my one tranny, and second is bad in the one currently in my car. I'm going to pull the tranny to put the good second from the other tranny in it & reinstall it, but I'll need to replace the others eventually. Therefor I have a few questions.
1. Is there somewhere online that sells synchro rings individually? I called a wholesale Honda parts dealer who quoted me $500+ saying that the rings are not available seperately & I have to order the whole assemblies.
2. Are there after-market synchros available? If so, where?
3. I know that I need to replace the synchros no matter what, but I'm curious if there is anything that I can do to my current synchros , or gears to ease the grinding.

I wouldn't go thru the hassle of swapping synchro's....
The synchro sets should be available seperately.. I mention "sets" because it is recommended that you replace the bad gear(s) as a set inc. syncros, gears, collar bearings,etc,etc..
If the dealer quotes a price of $500, then tell him to kiss your *** and look elsewhere..that price is outrageous..
If you are going as far as to rebuild the tranny, then consider new "shifter forks" as well..
Can you somehow remedy the the grind?.. you could always use a heavier weight of oil, but as long as you don't continue to abuse the tranny the damage is already done.. I had a second gear that grinded for over 5 years without anymore damage, and I treat my tranny's without any respect.. of course, I replace rings pretty often!

Well, it's not really a hassle for me. I just took my spare tranny apart & pulled the 2nd gear set in less than 30 min. Compared to pulling the tranny, it's a cakewalk. Plus, swapping synchros will buy me some time to find a better price than $500 - any suggestions on this? Where do you get your synchros?
Well, I find my synchro's in my local Honda dealership parts dept.. Its located about 20 steps from my toolbox.. If you call around to different dealerships then they should be able to accomadate your needs.. I know for a fact these parts can be purchased seperately if needed thru my dealership.. maybe it was just the bonehead parts person on the other side of the phone/counter that was giving you a line of bull.. keep trying..
