water pump OEM or Aftermarket??
My water pump is leaking and I need to know if an aftermarket one is better or the oem one. I just replaced it 45,000 miles ago and its leaking, so I'm thinking I'll bite the bullet on the oem one since the first one that was installed was aftermarket. Thoughts?
And is this something I could do myself? Does the axle need to be pulled off? What are some of the "harder" things I would encounter?

OEM.
When it comes to water pumps and timing belts, I ALWAYS recommend OEM. They all have a proven track record. Going with anything else is just asking for trouble.

ok oem it is, should I replace the timing belt while it apart, it was replaced at the same time as the pump.
What else can I replace while I'm in there. The balance shaft seals/retainers were all already replaced 10k ago.
Is there a crankshaft seal in there?

...from everything I've read they work, but are lots of headaches.

Whatever drag the water pump would put on the engine is gone...probably a pretty small % increase. Not so much the weight or mass of the pump...
Oem is overated. No OEM 's produce their own parts. There are many quality parts out there for less the price of stealership parts. In fact people on this board replace there parts with non-oem parts all the time. Do you all beleive performance parts are the only parts with quality inspection. HA!! Most of those so called performance parts you all buy were made oversea's were the labor is cheap and the inspections are nil.
