this may sound dumb, but find a junkyard with same year and make and practice on that, then go ahead use that experience on your car. just tryin to help
Said it several times now, different topics. Get a Helms manual, use your browser and search "Helms manuals".
I know my 1994 pretty well, but I would NEVER tear out a dash w/o good diagrams. Dashes use various clip-connectors, and if you try to "horse" them they will often break. The you will have a dash that forever rattles/squeaks.
I have never been inside the dash on my '94, but I need to go inside to replace the control assembly that controls the water-valve for the heater.
The Helms shows every single screw/bolt location, a complete schematic of the entire inside of the dash, and step by step instructions to r/r anything inside the dash. I studied all the diagrams, and know what to do before I go inside the dash (and what parts I needed to order) Wrenchy

well, the heater valve is located in the engine compartment on the firewall if you need to replace that. if its the climate control unit you need to replace that can be done without entire dash removal..
this is part of it http://www.ledautomotive.com/H...o.asp
That's the exact case. I will be replacing the water valve at the firewall, and also replacing the control-unit inside the dash at the same time.
And it's exactly as you said- you don't have to take the entire dash apart to get to the control unit, just parts of it.
But the point is if I hadn't studied the diagrams I might have just started popping screws, bolts, and brackets to get inside the dash. And I probably wouldn't have had a clue what the problem was until after the dash was torn apart (unless I was experienced with this model).
Might have removed much more than I needed, and if I didn't know WTF I was doing even damaged some of the bezel brackets.
So when I started having problems with the heater, I opened the manual, studied how the parts went together, and knew what was wrong, what parts needed replacing, and how exactly to get into the dash in that area.
And there is no way anyone could have "explained" how to get into the dash the best way over the net. The "best" way is to get a manual and learn how to read/study it. Wrenchy

I took out the dash on my accord several times to replace broken gauges and its easier than it looks.
- Pull the change holder out, it should be right below the cruise control button the the panel. You will see a screw, unsrew it.
-Pull the panel off.
-Pop out the Cruise control, Gauge Cluster Light Adjuster, and the Rear Defrost switch and disconnect them.
-Unsrew the obvious srews that hold the black plastic infront off the cluster. And pull the whole piece out. You dont have to disconnect the the heating buttons if your careful.
-Then you should see an exposed gauge cluster and screws. All thats left is unscrewing and pulling it all out.
