EBRAKE- Adjustment @ Rear, How Do I Do It? *rear disk*
So I bought a Civic Dx hatch for a winter beater. It has rear disc brakes swapped in the back. Previous owner has no idea what car they came from (neither do I)
Whne I bought it the ebrake didnt work, you could pull the handle but there was no tension. I was hoping it was simply an adjustment issue but I guess not.
I popped off the cover and started tightening the nut (clockwise) until it got to the end and the spring would allow for no more adjustment (spring was completely scrunched)
Now I could pull the ebrake and there was a lot of resistance, like you actually had to PULL the handle now. But I pulled it out of gear and the car still rolled.
What do I do? How Do I adjust the brakes at the rear of the car?
This is one of the last things I need to do in order to pass safety

You need to jack the rear of the car up, start the car, press the brake pedal a few times (I always over do it at like 10 times) and THEN turn the nut under the armrest.
You'll need to back that nut off a ways first, however.</TD></TR></TABLE>
What Ive told you is the right answer.

i dont know, i really doubt the cables stretched to the point of being unusable....he's just not doing it right, and making 3 threads at a time in other forums, hoping to get a different answer
It is possible it could be something other then poor adjustment.
I have a 92 si that came with rear dics. Well the thing that activates the ebrake under the brake piston at the caliper could be frozen. This was the case with mine. I tried adjusting and changing the cables with no luck. I changed with a pair of rebuilts that had the same problem. I took it back the guy was cool and gave me another set wich now works perfect. might be your problem maybe not. The way to check is take apart the caliper or swap for a new or known working one. GL

I'm guessing the previous owner never swapped the ebrake cables from the drum setup so they aren't hooked up. But tightening the nut, he is pulling the end of the cable up against the housing of the cable.
Get a set of cables from a junkyard and swap em in... If you brake em at a U Pull yard, darn, move on to the next car and try again. You'll learn how to take them off and put them back on without the fear of messing up your own car.
The rest of you, back off. The kid is learning. And "owning" him....? Hardly. You made yourself look like an *** for not clarifying things, what parts he has, etc. Grow up.
******* kids. That's why I never post....

Try and adjust it per the manual if it still doesn't work. Get yourself a set of cables for the 92-95 civic si. It had the rear disc brakes. I believe it is the same cable as the 94-? acura integra. they are about $50 from the dealer. It really sounds like the cables are to long. Have you service the rear brake caliper? the slide pins seize and cause the brakes not to work right. If everything is working okay there then it has to be the ebrake cable
I have the same problem. I swaped brakes on my 92 civic to 2000 gsr and since then my ebrake has not been working. I did the same thing this guy did i adjusted the little screw under the ebrake lever and it still doesnt work. but im going to try what you guys are saying. To lift the car loosen the nut press the brakes and tighten the nut. Ill let you guys know if it works for me.
Had the same problem..
the problem with mine was that at the back at the caliper there 's a pin that goes tru the cable and the lever, that pin was missing so i kept adlusting it and it wouldn't tighten so i ended up inspicting it and finding that they were missing...
sorry about the mispelling im at work hopefully it helps you..
